Requirements
  • Experience in financial crime within a global financial institution, preferably involving a payments business.

Responsibilities
  • Identify and assess compliance risks through reviews of business activities, changes, processes, testing, and systems.
  • Identify and investigate potential market abuse, including insider dealing, unlawful disclosure, market manipulation, and anti-competitive conduct.
  • Investigate compliance risk events or breaches and oversee corrective and preventative actions.
  • Implement compliance policies and procedures in line with regulatory requirements and international standards.
  • Collaborate with First Line of Defence, Compliance, Legal, and risk management functions on compliance and risk management.
  • Identify, investigate, and oversee potential money laundering, terrorist financing, and other financial crime.
  • Lead a team performing complex tasks, set objectives, coach employees, appraise performance, and determine reward outcomes.
  • Advise and influence decision-making, contribute to policy development, and take responsibility for operational effectiveness.
  • Consult on complex issues and advise People Leaders on escalated matters.
  • Identify risk mitigations and develop policies and procedures supporting control and governance.
  • Manage risk and strengthen controls related to the work performed.
  • Analyze data from multiple internal and external sources to solve problems.
  • Communicate complex and sensitive information and influence stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
  • Support Barclays stakeholders and project resources in delivering Financial Crime change activity.
  • Support business change programmes with Financial Crime management implications.
  • Oversee the performance of financial crime-related processes and controls.
  • Support the maintenance and delivery of the Financial Crime strategy for Barclays UK Corporate Bank and Payments.
  • Maintain knowledge of Barclays Group financial crime policies, standards, frameworks, and underlying legislation.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and act as a key contact for Financial Crime referrals.
  • Liaise with senior management on key initiatives and advise on Anti-Money Laundering controls.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of Anti-Money Laundering controls for effectiveness and coverage of known risks and emerging threats.
  • Oversee group functions supporting the Financial Crime control environment, including Fraud and Global Surveillance and Transaction Monitoring.
  • Build relationships with operational teams to ensure Anti-Money Laundering controls are executed to standard.
  • Represent Barclays UK Corporate Bank and Payments Financial Crime Execution on relevant Financial Crime forums.
  • Support Financial Crime Management risk assessments, One Conduct Risk Assessments, and Risk and Control Self-Assessments.
  • Identify, collate, and present dynamic risk management management information.
  • Implement and operate reporting and management information to provide assurance to Barclays Payments Executive Forum, Second Line of Defence, and external regulators.
  • Prepare Financial Crime key risk assessments and present them for Control Board approval.
  • Manage and maintain risk, process, and control documentation, meeting papers, attestations, and regulatory submissions.
  • Maintain the Op Rigour SharePoint site, inventories, and logs.
  • Own and enhance the management information and data used as the benchmark for Anti-Money Laundering transaction monitoring and continuously analyze shifting business risks.
  • Support Second and Third Line of Defence Financial Crime assurance activity.
  • Build business-unit capability in Financial Crime risk management through discussion, coaching, team meetings, and support for line managers.
  • Create a risk-aware culture and encourage colleagues to develop and maintain risk-focused processes.
  • Maintain relationships across Barclays UK Corporate Bank and Payments and with First, Second, and Third Line of Defence functions.
  • Contribute to strategy and methodology for Financial Crime Compliance and Risk Management.
  • Assess global regulatory requirements and emerging product and client risks to improve governance, processes, controls, and operating effectiveness.
Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced degree-level education and a strong academic track record.
  • A recognized Financial Crime or Anti-Money Laundering risk management qualification or equivalent, such as ACAMS, IRM, CIIA, or ICA.
  • Experience supporting strategic direction incorporating a values-aligned performance culture.
  • Experience developing and implementing consistent risk and control global frameworks within a financial organization.
  • Coordination across a wide range of stakeholders within and beyond the function, seeking business feedback about risk and control effectiveness.

Housing Plus Group secures $1.2B funding package to invest in homes and communities

Housing Plus Group has secured £961 million in funding from five banking partners to invest in existing homes, deliver new properties, and strengthen communities. The social housing provider partnered with Nationwide, NatWest, Santander, AIB, and Barclays for the financing, supported by advisers Savills and Trowers & Hamlins. The package builds on £806 million of existing facilities, bringing the Group's total loan portfolio to over £1.3 billion. The refinancing simplifies the organisation's treasury structure whilst reducing financial risk and costs. Interim Chief Finance Officer Richard Nowell called it "a transformative moment" that improves financial resilience and creates capacity for customer investment. Group Chief Executive Wayne Gethings said the funding enables continued investment in homes and neighbourhoods whilst delivering new properties for future generations.

Barclays names Mike Joo and Adeel Khan investment bank co-CEOs

Barclays has appointed Mike Joo and Adeel Khan as joint chief executives of its investment banking division, effective February 2027 pending regulatory approval. Joo will join from Bank of America, where he served as co-head of global investment banking. He joined the US lender in 2006 after eight years at Credit Suisse, where he was co-head of Asia debt capital markets. He began his career at Goldman Sachs in 1995. Khan currently oversees Barclays' global markets business and has been co-head of the investment bank since 2021. He joined Barclays in 2008 and has over 25 years' experience in financial services. Previously, Khan worked at BlueBay Asset Management, running the firm's credit hedge fund. Both executives will serve on the group executive committee.

Winvia Entertainment secures $42M Barclays loan to fuel UK prize draw market consolidation

Winvia Entertainment has secured a £33 million three-year term loan from Barclays Bank, replacing its previous Eurobank facility. The AIM-listed company, which operates in UK prize draws and Romanian online gaming, also obtained a £5 million revolving acquisition facility with an uncommitted accordion option to increase it by up to £15 million. As of 30 June 2026, Winvia reported a net cash balance of approximately £31.8 million. The company is the second-largest UK prize draw operator by market share, running brands including Best of the Best, Click Competitions, and Rev Comps. The refinancing aims to support Winvia's consolidation strategy in the fragmented UK prize draw market. Chief Financial Officer Simon Hay said the arrangement establishes "a secure, long term capital structure with low leverage".
