Sprouts Farmers Market operates as a specialty grocery retailer focused on natural and organic foods. It runs more than 400 stores in 24 states, offering a curated selection that mirrors a farmers market, including produce, organic options, vitamins and supplements, bulk foods, meat and dairy, and natural body care. Stores are smaller (about 23,000 square feet) to emphasize freshness and efficiency, with a strong distribution network to keep products fresh. A major part of its offering is private-label products (over 2,400 items) that made up about 23% of sales in late 2024, helping margins and loyalty. The company differentiates itself by concentrating on hard-to-find natural and specialty items, health-focused categories (plant-based, gluten-free, keto, paleo), and a farm-market shopping vibe, rather than competing as a traditional grocery store. Its goal is to make natural foods more accessible and affordable while serving as a complementary destination for health-minded shoppers.

Cashew camembert is here to save us all, philadelphia's new black-owned vegan restaurants, and more food news.

Cashew camembert is here to save VegNews all, philadelphia's new black-owned vegan restaurants, and more food news. This week's vegan food news includes artisanal dairy-free cheese, ultra-realistic sausages, protein-packed plant milk, boozy pumpkin boba, and more. August 14, 2026 Foxes are cute, playful, and intelligent, sure, but they're also incredibly mischievous. In fact, sometimes they even get vegans into trouble. Intrigued? So were VegNews. Check out its story about why a Scottish fox recently made American news and fueled headlines about "militant vegans." Spoiler alert: it has a lot to do with culture-war clickbait. But before you dive into what sneaky foxes have to do with wokeness, it's time for this week's food news. VegNews has got exciting updates on everything from plant-based Camembert cheese to boozy pumpkin spice boba and plenty more. UmYum's artisanal vegan cheese is launching at Sprouts. VegNews This Canadian brand is launching across the US to save the fancy vegan cheese market. Last year, VegNews reported that UmYum, Canada's popular, award-winning, artisanal dairy-free cheese brand, was heading to stores in Northern California. Now, VegNews is thrilled to update you with even bigger news: UmYum's revolutionary, creamy vegan cheeses have landed at more than 480 Sprouts stores across the US. Next time you're in the cheese aisle, look out for Monroe, the brand's white-rinded vegan answer to camembert, as well as artisanal cheeses in varieties like Basil & Garlic and Za'atar & Spices. "We're thrilled about the partnership with Sprouts," said UmYum's CEO Katherine Corden. "Food is big. It's cultural, it's personal, it's communal. It's one of life's true pleasures. We believe that food experiences should be celebrated, shared, and enjoyed. That's what UmYum and Sprouts are doing together - we're making it easier for more people to choose beautifully delicious food experiences." Juicy Marbles' latest hyper-realistic offering is butcher-style sausages. Juicy Marbles Juicy Marbles - makers of vegan baby back ribs and ultra-realistic plant-based fish - launches line of butcher-style sausages. Two weeks ago, Juicy Marbles wowed British consumers with its new Butcher-Minced Bangers, which, as the name suggests, have been developed to look and taste like sausages straight from the butcher's shop. When VegNews say "wowed", VegNews mean it: the sausages promptly sold out from UK online retailer Ocado within hours of launching. Now, it's America's turn to see what all the fuss is about. The popular vegan brand, which has previously launched hyperrealistic vegan versions of baby back ribs and fish, recently made its Butcher-Minced Bangers available on its US site. "Plant-based sausages have tasted good for a long time," said co-founder Luka Sinček. "They opened people's minds to the potential of plant-based meat. However, our credo demands that if we can give something a sensory overhaul, we must. So, when we realized we could employ the same techniques butchers use to make high-quality sausage - by mincing and casing our own plant-based whole cuts and fats - the superior eating experience kinda shocked us, and we had to move forward." But if you're intrigued, bad news: the sausages are already sold out. Make sure to keep an eye on the US website for updates on future restocks. Cheezy Vegan specializes in comfort food, like Nashville Hot Oyster Mushroom and breakfast sandwiches. Cheezy Vegan Philadelphia is home to two new Black-owned vegan restaurants. It's a good time to be a Philadelphian. The Pennsylvania city is home to not one, but two new Black-owned vegan restaurants. Delaware's Cheezy Vegan opened the new Cheezy Vegan Cafe & Comfort Food Lab on South 17th Street in July. Think pure (and very cheesy) comfort food: Quesadillas, cheesesteaks, mac and cheese, loaded nacho potatoes, and plenty more. In The Square Food Hall, Chinatown (the first Black-owned food hall in the city), there's also a new location of New Jersey favorite Vegans Are Us. Again, the menu is centered around veganized comfort classics, like breakfast sandwiches, hot dogs, fish subs, and stacked burgers. The whole milk versus vegan milk debate is dead thanks to Malk's protein-packed new launch. Forget cow's milk. Malk's new plant-based milk, Whole Malk, is thick, creamy, and packed with 12 grams of plant protein per serving. For context, that's more than whole cow's milk, which offers around eight grams per serving. Even better, Whole Malk is made with just a handful of ingredients, including organic coconuts, cashews, soy, and pea protein. Grab a bottle now from Whole Foods Market, Target, or Sprouts across the US. Your fall needs these boozy pumpkin-spice popping bobas. If you can't wait until September to start drinking pumpkin spice everything, then this is the beverage for you. Boba Pops' unique, alcohol-infused Pumpkin Spice flavor, complete with boba pearls, is vegan and gluten-free, and according to the brand, it will "wrap you in silky pumpkin sweetness." If you're not quite ready for pumpkin spice, there are also several summery flavors available, including Margarita, Peach, and Piña Colada. Hooray! Cookies A new vegan cookie brand (with history) is hitting the market. Hooray! Cookies is a new vegan, clean-label, gluten-free cookie brand, offering one- and three-ounce bags of fun and classic flavors like S'mores, Snickerdoodle, Mint Chip, and Oatmeal Raisin. Okay, VegNews say new, but Hooray! has actually been around for quite some time. In fact, it was founded in 1997, but until recently, it was known as the Sun Flour Baking Company. Die-hard vegans from the 90s may also recognize owner Rey Ortega - the same plant-based cookie pioneer who founded ABC Cookies. According to the brand, the new name and image "matches the joy of every bite."

NC grocery chain in expansion wave around Charlotte heads to South Boulevard.

NC grocery chain in expansion wave around Charlotte heads to South Boulevard. Updated August 11, 2026 1:43 PM Gift Article A North Carolina grocery chain is expanding again in Charlotte with plans to convert another retailer's space just two months after its most recent store debut. Lowes Foods plans to renovate the existing Burlington store at 4726 South Blvd. in the Woodlawn Marketplace shopping center, according to a city filing submitted Monday. The sketch plans for review include a drive-thru and parking lot improvements. "We have had conversations with the developer for the site but have not finalized plans," Lowes Foods said in a statement Tuesday to The Charlotte Observer. The location is less than 6 miles from another Burlington store that opened in 2021, also on South Boulevard, and less than 9 miles from a Burling store on Pineville-Matthews Road. The South Boulevard store is 48,000-square-feet, according to real estate firm Kimco Realty. Other tenants in the shopping center include Home Depot, TJ Maxx, Micro Center and Arby's. Lowes Foods adding more grocery stores around Charlotte. Lowes Foods has been expanding in the Charlotte region after pulling back over a decade ago. In June, the Winston-Salem-based grocer opened its seventh store in the market at the intersection of Kannapolis Parkway and Rogers Lake Road in Kannapolis. It was the third Lowes Foods store opening in less than a year in the region. In January, a Waxhaw store opened at 3412 Providence Road and last September, the Indian Land, S.C., store at U.S. 521 and Possum Hollow Road at The Exchange debuted. Lowes also opened a store in Columbia. Lowes also is building a second Mooresville store at the southwest corner of Mecklenburg Highway and the East-West Connector. That store is expected open next year. Lowes Foods joins crowded Charlotte grocery market. Thedrive to capture grocery shoppers' dollars is fierce in the $10.8 billion Charlotte market, where discount giant Walmart and Matthews-based Harris Teeter consistently rank at the top, respectively. Other grocers are expanding, too, with openings expected this year: * Rochester, N.Y.-based Wegmans will make its Charlotte debut Oct. 14 with a 110,000-square-foot grocery in Ballantyne at 11550 North Community House Road. * Sprouts Farmers Market, a Phoenix-based specialty grocer, plans to open at the former Earth Fare at Christenbury Corners, 8885 Christenbury Parkway, in Concord. The store is expected to open this fall. * El Rey Supermarket is planning an interior upfit at the former Walgreens at 7115 E. W.T. Harris Blvd. in Charlotte. The 11,200-square-foot building will house the specialty grocer, which stocks mostly Mexican products along with items from El Salvador, Colombia and the Dominican Republic. The store is expected to open this summer. Lowes Foods' history in Charlotte. In 2014, Lowes Foods began pulling out of Charlotte, swapping stores with Harris Teeter and closing underperforming stores as part of a reinvestment strategy. The 72-year-old company has nearly 9,000 employees at about 80 Lowes Foods supermarkets in the Carolinas. Lowes Foods is a subsidiary of Alex Lee, based in Hickory.
