- A current Physical Therapist license in Pennsylvania or New Jersey is required, based on the work location.
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification is required.
- Successful completion of required affiliations and continuing education units to maintain licensure is required.
- The therapist must be able to sit for up to ninety minutes at a time and stand for thirty to forty-five consecutive minutes.
- The therapist must be able to manipulate machine dials with the hands and fingers.
- The therapist must be able to lift, move, push, and pull patients weighing up to 300 pounds.
- The therapist must be able to frequently stoop, bend, squat, crouch, kneel, and reach above shoulder level.
- The therapist must have tactile sensation for assessing muscle spasms, texture, and skin temperature, as well as hearing sufficient for normal conversation and call bells.
- The therapist must have general vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
- Evaluate referred patients in the acute care setting and plan and administer physical therapy treatment programs to restore function, relieve pain, and prevent disability.
- Perform and document thorough, accurate, and timely initial patient evaluations.
- Establish realistic and attainable short-term and long-term goals with each patient.
- Perform therapeutic exercises effectively and appropriately.
- Implement and revise progressive treatment programs based on evaluative findings.
- Administer therapeutic modalities and programs, including hot and cold packs, ultrasound, massage, electrical stimulation, whirlpool, and wound care.
- Fit assistive, prosthetic, and orthotic devices and provide appropriate training.
- Perform discharge planning and instruct patients and family members in home programs.
- Document initial evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries accurately and promptly.
- Provide on-premises supervision of Physical Therapist Assistants and aides.
- Assist in orienting new staff Physical Therapists.
- Assess patients and provide treatment appropriate to their growth and development, including neonates, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Supervise Physical Therapist and Physical Therapist Assistant students and observers when assigned.
- Assist in developing and implementing department programs and participate in quality-improvement committees and initiatives.
- Bill patient accounts accurately for services rendered.
- Schedule patients as assigned.
- Attend multidisciplinary meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- A Doctorate degree is preferred.
