Fairfield University ranked No. 3 nationally among top Allergy-Friendly Colleges. Jun 18, 2026 By Ava Derbyshire According to 2024 findings from the CDC's National Center for Health Statistics, "3 in 10 U.S. adults and children reported having a seasonal allergy, eczema, or food allergy." For first-year students, the responsibility of food allergies or dietary restrictions shifts from family settings to campus dining, making trust in food safety at college more important than ever. Fairfield University's Dining On-Campus, operated in partnership with Aramark under Stags Hospitality, has made food safety and allergen awareness a top priority. Those efforts have paid off in a significant way. After being added to Spokin Verified Colleges in 2025 - a leading food allergy resource and advocacy platform - Fairfield University has jumped in a single year from No. 39 to No. 3 in Spokin's Top 100 Allergy-Friendly Colleges 2026. This recognition reflects years of commitment to providing a safer dining experience for students. Fairfield's Tully Dining Commons is completely free of peanuts, tree nuts, and coconut. Additionally, allergy-safe dining options and resources include: * True Balance Station: Located in The Tully Dining Commons, this station offers complete meals made without gluten and 8 out of the 9 top allergens (peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, wheat, soy, dairy, eggs, and sesame). True Balance is AllerCheck certified, meaning it uses verified ingredients and prepares, cooks, and serves separately using dedicated kitchen tools to strictly minimize cross-contact. * Peace of Mind Pantry: Also in The Tully, this room is a locked, access-controlled pantry for students with celiac disease or or documented allergies. It is stocked with dedicated appliances (toasters, microwaves, pizza ovens) and certified gluten-free foods. * Dedicated Staff: The dining team includes an executive allergen chef and a full-time registered dietitian to help customize meals and provide one-on-one nutrition support. * Purple Kits: For students with allergies beyond the top 9, hospitality provides designated, sanitized kitchen tools (like cutting boards and thermometers) to prevent cross-contact. * Campuswide Labeling: Top 9 allergens are clearly labeled across all campus dining locations, including the Stag Snack Bar and The Levee. "Fairfield University, in partnership with Aramark (Stags Hospitality), strives to create a campus culture that attracts and supports the best students possible," said Jay R. DeGioia '80, district manager for Aramark. "Creating an industry-leading allergen program helps ensure every student can succeed without distraction. Partnering with Spokin has been an important step in continuously improving our program, and we're proud to provide a dining experience where students with food allergies can thrive." The University's dedication to a positive dining experience extends beyond food allergy safety. Fairfield's culinary team has earned eight national and regional culinary awards over the past three years, reflecting the talent and innovation behind its dining program. Among those honors are multiple gold, silver, and bronze medals earned by chefs Myles Hamilton and Bill Reardon through prestigious collegiate culinary competitions, including the American Culinary Federation's ACE competitions and the National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS) Culinary Challenge. As the University continues to enhance the student experience, Stags Hospitality remains focused on delivering exceptional food while maintaining the highest standards of safety, inclusivity, and care. UK to reduce meal plan costs by 5%. May 25, 2026 Students enter the 90 on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026, in Lexington, Ky. Photo by Scout Tarquinio | Kentucky Kernel The University of Kentucky is reducing meal plan costs for students by 5% during the 2026 Fall semester, according to a press release from UKNOW. Reduced costs were made possible through the Enterprise Services Partnership, the press release said, an initiative to locate a partner company that will provide services spanning maintenance, grounds, custodial services, dining and food services and in-patient transport services. In May, UK announced it selected food services company Compass Group as its preferred partner for the Enterprise Services Partnership, with a goal to have a contract with the company by July 2026, according to former Kentucky Kernel reporting. Compass Group is scheduled to begin dining and concessions operations on July 1. The press release said while the overall agreement is still being finalized, there have been "targeted investments" to improve the student dining experience. "These plans focus on modernizing dining locations, expanding chef-inspired menu options and introducing new service models that better reflect how students live and eat today," the press release said. "Initiatives are expected to enhance food quality, increase variety and create more welcoming dining experiences across campus." UK and Compass Group will also be working to offer "hands-on opportunities" for students to gain experience in food and hospitality services. The press release said the Enterprise Services Fellowship will cause no changes in employment, pay or benefits for UK employees and employees will have access to career development and training as the partnership moves forward. According to former Kernel reporting, it was announced through a letter that facilities provider Aramark Campus LLC would be ending its partnership with UK, resulting in 926 employees working in food and concessions to be laid off by June 30.A press release about the new partnership with Compass Group said employees "affected by the transition" would be offered an opportunity to continue working at UK with "comparable compensation and benefits."
Aramark Collegiate Hospitality announces new partnership with Suffolk University to strengthen student experience. Apr 10 2026 13:00 BST BOSTON-(BUSINESS WIRE)-Apr. 10, 2026- Aramark Collegiate Hospitality today announced a new partnership with Suffolk University slated to begin in Summer 2026. This collaboration introduces Suffolk Dining, a new dining program designed to elevate food quality, expand access, and strengthen Suffolk's competitive position in the heart of downtown Boston. Aramark Collegiate Hospitality today announced a new partnership with Suffolk University slated to begin in Summer 2026. This collaboration introduces Suffolk Dining, a new dining program designed to elevate food quality, expand access, and strengthen Suffolk's competitive position in the heart of downtown Boston. "Suffolk Dining reflects a shift toward a more welcoming, inclusive, and value-driven campus experience - one that supports our students' daily lives, strengthens community, and aligns with the way students actually live and learn in an urban campus," said Brian McDermott, Associate Vice President for Campus Experience, Suffolk University. The new Suffolk Dining meal plan increases the number of meals per week offered in the default residential plan, and students will no longer manage declining balances - instead, they'll benefit from predictable meal access, with the flexibility to choose All-You-Care-To-Enjoy (AYCTE) dining, meal exchange for grab-and-go options, or Dining Dollars for retail convenience. "Suffolk University's commitment to reimagining dining as a driver of belonging, access, and student success mirrors our own hospitality-first approach, and we are excited to be part of their story," said Barbara Flanagan, President and CEO of Aramark Collegiate Hospitality. "Together, we're building a modern program that reflects the energy of downtown Boston, supports student well-being, and delivers long-term value for the University community." Key Highlights of the Partnership * Dining as a Differentiator: A refreshed hospitality brand, visible upgrades, and expanded culinary identity will position Suffolk as a leader in student life and enrollment. Suffolk Dining emphasizes community-building spaces, modern service models, and a hospitality-first approach that extends beyond food. * Expanded Access & Inclusion: The new model introduces predictable, consistent access to meals - including All-You-Care-To-Enjoy dining and meal exchange at key retail locations - reducing the stress of budgeting and supporting students who previously ran out of dining funds mid-semester. Culturally inclusive menus and commuter-friendly options ensure that a diverse student body feels seen, welcomed, and supported. * Culinary Innovation: Menus inspired by global flavors, rotating concepts, and local sourcing will bring variety and excitement to campus. The program incorporates monotony breakers, themed events, and wellness-driven offerings designed to make dining a vibrant part of student life. * Technology Integration: Mobile ordering, self-service kiosks, improved throughput, and future smart-locker pickup solutions will deliver greater convenience and speed across Suffolk's campus. The move to Grubhub replaces Boost and provides a familiar, intuitive interface for students and employees. The partnership aligns with Suffolk's strategic priorities and reflects Aramark's commitment to innovation and long-term financial sustainability. Through a multiyear plan, Aramark will invest in and deliver a dining experience designed to enhance the student experience, support well-being, and foster a strong sense of community across Suffolk's residential and commuter populations.
