Copperlane, a New York City-based developer of an AI-native autonomous mortgage origination platform, has raised $4.1 million in seed funding led by TQ Ventures. Y Combinator, US News Digital Ventures, Mercor and Valon Mortgage also participated. Founded by Athan Zhang and Brianna Lin, Copperlane develops "Penny", an autonomous AI mortgage loan officer that processes borrower assets, credit files and income patterns to generate instant underwriting recommendations and draft compliance explanations. The Y Combinator Winter 2026 company launched its automated processing engine in June 2026. The funds will be used to scale operations, expand the AI loan officer's capabilities and accelerate development of software that shortens pre-approval timelines.
Carrington will adopt ValonOS and acquire Valon Mortgage, adding about 800,000 loans as both target Ginnie Mae servicing modernization.
Carrington Mortgage Services, a leading Ginnie Mae servicer, has formed a strategic partnership with Valon Technologies to adopt ValonOS as its core servicing platform. As part of the agreement, Carrington will acquire Valon Mortgage in collaboration with a private equity partner, adding approximately 800,000 loans to its portfolio. ValonOS is an AI-native operating system designed to consolidate workflows, loan data and compliance logic for mortgage servicing. The partnership combines Carrington's government lending expertise with Valon's modern technology platform to enhance efficiency in Ginnie Mae servicing. For Valon, which has raised over $290 million from investors including Andreessen Horowitz, the transaction allows the company to shift focus from operating as a mortgage servicer to becoming a technology provider for the broader mortgage industry.
Rithm Capital Corporation has announced an expansion of its long-standing partnership with Valon Technologies, further integrating Valon’s AI-native mortgage servicing platform into operations at Newrez, a Rithm subsidiary. The expanded collaboration is aimed at modernizing mortgage servicing systems and enhancing customer experience for more than four million homeowners.
Rithm Capital has acquired a minority stake in Valon Technologies, a mortgage servicing technology company that developed an AI-native operating system called ValonOS. The partnership will bring Valon's platform to over 4 million homeowners serviced by Newrez, Rithm's subsidiary and one of America's largest mortgage servicers. Newrez plans to begin transitioning to ValonOS in 2027. The platform captures servicing data and decision logic, including exceptions, precedents and compliance context used in loan servicing. Rithm has supported Valon since its inception. The expanded partnership aims to enhance servicing capabilities and reduce operational costs for Newrez's mortgage servicing operations. Valon operates as both a technology provider and mortgage servicer, ranking among the top 10 US mortgage servicers.
