Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Resolve intricate billing edits resulting from previously billed claims and rebill them successfully when needed.
  • Follow up on assigned no-response work queues and communicate with payers by phone, email, or website platforms.
  • Locate denial or remittance information on payer websites.
  • Respond to assigned account denials by correcting claim information, rebilling claims, or submitting appeals with supporting documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal and external departments, including Coding, to resolve billing edits and denials.
  • Identify and present payer trends among claims with similar editing reasons and work with leaders to mitigate them.
  • Identify payer trends within denials and work with leaders to reduce denials and minimize aging accounts receivable.
  • Record detailed notes describing actions taken on accounts for subsequent follow-up.
  • Navigate payer websites to obtain information and review payer policy guidelines and claim adjudication details with supporting documentation.
  • Use Epic, OnBase, and other required platforms proficiently.
  • Work independently under time constraints and deadlines with minimal supervision, prioritize workload, and identify possible resolutions to claim challenges.
  • Meet daily and weekly productivity standards with acceptable quality-assurance results.
  • Identify accounts requiring placement on payer agendas when they are not resolved through the normal dispute process, with concentration on accounts receivable older than 60 days.
  • Communicate payer trends that negatively affect overall accounts receivable.
  • Communicate professionally and responsively with Patient Access, Coding, and other outside departments to resolve billing or follow-up challenges.
  • Identify department trends for management review and participate in requested initiatives involving hospital, practice, and revenue-cycle departments.
  • Develop an understanding of expected reimbursement to ensure correct payments are received.
  • Develop an understanding of leadership-provided reports as they relate to assigned tasks.
Desired Qualifications
  • An Associate's Degree is preferred.
  • Prior office experience is preferred.
  • Medical billing or claims knowledge is preferred.
  • A CCS-Certified Coding Specialist, Certified Inpatient Coder, or Certified Outpatient Coder certification is preferred upon hire.
