Microsoft stock dips 0.6% as Maia 200 AI chip could launch in September with $50B quarterly capex

Microsoft fell roughly 0.6% on Tuesday following reports it could launch its next Maia AI processor as early as September. The company has not confirmed the timing but is clearly pursuing greater control over its AI infrastructure rather than relying on external chipmakers. The Maia 200 chip, manufactured by TSMC using a three-nanometre process, contains over 140 billion transistors and delivers 30% better performance per dollar than previous hardware, according to Microsoft. Deployment has begun in Iowa, with Arizona data centres next. The move addresses mounting AI costs from Copilot, Azure and OpenAI workloads. Microsoft shares traded at $502.61 on 11 August, 12.69% below the GF Value estimate of $575.66. The company expects roughly $50 billion in capital spending this quarter. Success hinges on whether custom chips can sufficiently reduce AI costs to justify the enormous investment.

ZoomInfo integrates B2B data with Microsoft Copilot Studio, Dynamics 365, Excel and Word

ZoomInfo has launched a connector for Microsoft Copilot Studio, enabling customers to access its B2B intelligence data directly within Microsoft 365 Copilot, Dynamics 365, Excel, and Word. The integration allows sales teams to use natural language to search companies, identify contacts, and enrich account information without switching between applications. The connector works through GTM.AI, ZoomInfo's data layer that connects to multiple platforms including Salesforce Agentforce, HubSpot Breeze, and Gong. In Dynamics 365, users can enrich records with verified contacts and intent signals. Excel users can generate target audience lists, whilst Word can create account plans using live ZoomInfo data. Access requires appropriate ZoomInfo accounts, Microsoft licences, and administrator approval. ZoomInfo reports customers save 11.5 hours weekly on account research using its intelligence platform, which covers 100 million companies and 500 million contacts.

Microsoft stock surges above 200-day moving average but still lags S&P 500 by 8% YTD

Microsoft shares are trading above their 200-day moving average by the widest margin since October, though the stock still lags the S&P 500 year to date with a 4.7% gain versus 13% for the benchmark index. The tech company's fiscal fourth quarter results helped reverse concerns about AI overspending. Microsoft posted $90 billion in revenue, up 18% year over year, whilst Azure and cloud services surged 43%. Azure crossed the $100 billion annual revenue milestone, demonstrating enterprise AI deployment at scale. Operating income rose 18% to $40.6 billion. The company returned $10.2 billion to shareholders through dividends and buybacks whilst avoiding aggressive capital expenditure increases seen amongst Big Tech peers. Profit estimates have risen since the July earnings report.

Microsoft hits $506 after 31% surge but capex jumps 110% to eat free cash flow

Microsoft sits at $506, up 31% in a month, prompting analysts to recommend holding rather than chasing the rally. The tech giant posted fiscal Q4 revenue of $90 billion, up 18%, with Azure crossing $100 billion in annual revenue and growing 43%. Microsoft 365 Copilot reached 30 million paid seats. However, free cash flow fell 23% to $19.6 billion as capital expenditure surged 110% to $35.8 billion. The CFO signalled Q1 spending will exceed $50 billion. Commercial remaining performance obligations hit $678 billion, up 84% year-over-year. Analysts maintain a $563 consensus price target with 54 buy ratings. The stock trades at 28 times earnings and 56 times free cash flow. Observers suggest waiting for a pullback to the mid-$400s before buying.

Greg Abel may buy Microsoft stock despite Warren Buffett's decades-long avoidance due to conflict concerns

Greg Abel, Warren Buffett's successor at Berkshire Hathaway, may eventually invest in Microsoft, a stock Buffett admired but avoided for decades. Buffett previously called his failure to buy Microsoft "stupidity" but refrained due to ethical concerns over his friendship with Bill Gates, who served on Berkshire's board. With Gates no longer on the board and Abel already expanding Berkshire's technology holdings, including Alphabet, the constraints preventing a Microsoft investment have weakened. Microsoft's fundamentals align with Berkshire's investment criteria: fiscal 2026 revenue grew 18% to over $331 billion, operating income rose 21%, and net income jumped 31%. The company's cloud and AI business reached a $37 billion annual run rate, growing 123% year over year, whilst Microsoft Cloud revenue hit $59.3 billion, up 27%.
