- A Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university with an emphasis in some branch of Engineering, such as Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering, or an Associate's degree from a two-year community college or technical school with an emphasis in Instrumentation and Controls is preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education and related experience or training may be accepted.
- Experience programming in an industrial environment, implementing industrial control software during startup, and working with customers regarding system requirements is required.
- Experience with object-oriented programming, user interface development, database systems, and system integration is required.
- Develop, test, and implement programmable logic controller code for industrial automation systems.
- Design and configure Human Machine Interface applications for process control and monitoring.
- Create project documentation, including system descriptions, operator manuals, and change logs.
- Work with clients, electrical engineers, control system programmers, and information system specialists to deliver integrated solutions.
- Commission and launch control systems on-site, and provide troubleshooting, technical support, and operator training.
- Build client relationships through professional communication, anticipating needs, and exceeding expectations.
- Stay current with industry trends and technologies to support continuous improvement and innovation.
- Knowledge of value-added agricultural industries such as ethanol, seed oil, and pet food.
- Knowledge of food and beverage processes.
- Knowledge of continuous-process environments.

To further improve its cyber-awareness and protections, Interstates has also worked with Veracity Industrial Networks (veracity.io) for several years, and participated in developing its OT Network Controller software, which intuitively manages an SDN-capable switch from Dynics Inc. ( www.dynics.com ),and uses zero-trust and deny-by-default methods to improve network visibility and security.
To be intentional with making a difference in its communities, Interstates Engineering Inc launched a company-wide program called Engage in 2021.
