Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Social Work, or a related field is required, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • A valid Georgia driver's license must be possessed and maintained.
  • Previous work experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Process intake of delinquent juveniles by confirming jurisdiction, evaluating complaint validity, conducting interviews, determining required action, and preparing legal documents, reports, and files.
  • Receive and examine complaints and delinquency, dependency, or child-in-need-of-services charges to consider commencing proceedings.
  • Review court records and orders and determine offender obligations.
  • Conduct intake interviews and collect and record case intake data.
  • Obtain school records and family social history, perform drug screening, and transport juveniles as required.
  • Manage and authorize juvenile placement into detention or protective custody on a 24-hour basis.
  • Ensure a juvenile's right to a timely hearing.
  • Confer with law enforcement agencies and make judicial probable-cause determinations regarding delinquent cases.
  • Authorize medical treatment for juveniles in life-threatening situations.
  • Make referrals for counseling, community service, tutoring, mentoring, and work-readiness training.
  • Document case files and make recommendations to the Lead Intake Officer for the Judge and District Attorney.
