Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited physical therapy assistant program with an associate’s degree in science or applied science approved by the American Physical Therapy Association, Inc.
  • Possess and maintain current CPR certification.
  • Hold a valid driver's license, have an automobile in good working condition, and maintain automobile insurance in accordance with Ohio laws.
  • Have a minimum of one year of clinical experience as a physical therapy assistant.
  • Communicate effectively and relate courteously and cooperatively with patients, caregivers, colleagues, supervisors, co-workers, and others.
  • Demonstrate sufficient visual and hearing ability to comprehend written and verbal communication.
  • Demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be able to ambulate throughout patients’ homes, including navigating stairs and physical barriers typical to private residences.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct physical therapy treatments according to the physical therapist's directions and the physician's plan of care.
  • Treat patients to relieve pain, develop or restore function, and maintain maximum performance.
  • Direct and assist patients with active and passive therapeutic exercises, muscle reeducation, gait and functional training, transfer activities, and prosthetic training.
  • Use physical agents including heat, cold, water, light, electricity, ultrasound, and massage.
  • Observe and report patients’ reactions to treatment and changes in their condition to the physical therapist and organization personnel.
  • Instruct patients in the care and use of wheelchairs, braces, crutches, canes, and prosthetic or orthotic devices.
  • Maintain clinical and conference notes for incorporation into patients’ clinical records within prescribed time frames.
