Cisco Network Engineer
A global investment bank is looking to recruit a Network Implementation Engineer to manage and deploy the EMEA aspect of a new global WAN service as part of their WAN transformation program. You should have strong networking technical skills to join their global facing Network Operations team for EMEA. The team’s primary responsibilities include the support, maintenance and deployment of business critical services for the bank, with the major vendor technologies being Cisco (inc. Nexus platforms), Fortinet, F5, Bluecoat and Corvil.
Role / Principal Accountabilities:
They are looking for a highly motivated, experienced Network Engineer to fill a position which consists primarily of global WAN deployment and migration responsibilities but may also include other upgrade programs and project implementation tasks as well as operational and on-call support. The role will consist of working within a small team regionally as well as a part of a global team providing hands on opportunities within the networking environment driving their WAN deployment program within EMEA. This also includes (but not limited to) the low-level design of WAN routing, provisioning and testing of new WAN circuits and migration of WAN service within various Nomura offices in Europe. The candidate will be expected to liaise with the various carriers directly as well as the global deployment teams and European branch office support groups relating to deployment activities. Due to the nature of the role the candidate must be willing to work regular weekends during the deployment phase with days off in the week to compensate.
Key Objectives critical to success of the role:
- You should have knowledge and experience of the various networking technologies commonly deployed within the Investment bank environment including Cisco ASR, 8500, Nexus 9000, 7000, 5000 and 2000 series hardware.
- Ability to migrate large number of production regional WAN circuits such as IEPL and MPLS from one carrier to another seamlessly without impact to the production network
- Implement BGP based global WAN routing topology across regions in a large-scale global enterprise environment
- Configure Cisco routing devices such as Catalyst 8500, ASR 100x, Nexus 9000, 7000 and other ISR1/2/4 series routers comfortably with common BGP peers including local preference, as-path, MED, route-map, RR, and prefix-list across a large number BGP ASNs
- Configure enterprise multi-domain multicast routing using PIM, MSDP, Anycast RP
- Optimize network performance, addressing issues such as latency, bandwidth utilization, and packet loss
- Develop and maintain network documentation, including diagrams and configurations
- Ability to self manage demonstrating effective project management and troubleshooting skills within the network arena providing second line support as required.
- Communicate/co-work closely with global counterparts as a single team in a well-organized manner
- Ability to communicate effectively to business and technical stakeholders for operational, project and deployment activities as well as have an appreciation of the risk associated with supporting a high profile network environment.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Candidate must have strong technical skills combined with the ability to work within a global team, must be a team player and have excellent communication skills. Must be self-motivated; be able to drive projects to meet agreed timescales whilst working with minimal supervision.
- Experienced network engineer qualified to CCNP level or above
- Strong network operations (2nd/3rd line complex troubleshooting) and deployment (project) experience for an enterprise/financial environment.
- Good knowledge and experience of core networking technologies including routing, switching, multicast, network security and network management on a Cisco IOS/NX-OS infrastructure
- Good knowledge of Cisco LAN architectures including working with Cisco Nexus platforms and EVPN/VXLAN & SDA deployments
- Experience in the deployment and support of VPN solutions (Cisco ASA/Firepower/AnyConnect) to support both remote access and client/vendor services
- Familiar with utilising Cisco management platforms like DCNM & DNAC to manage configuration deployment
- Knowledge of WAN architectures and their deployment
- Extensive knowledge of network routing protocols such as OSPF & BGP and their deployment within a virtualise and WAN environment including the redistribution between the two in an optimized way to avoid any potential routing loops
- Good working knowledge of Corvil deployments and dashboard configurations
- Experience of using protocol analysers & decoding skills (Wireshark interpretation)
- Competent in using network monitoring tools and techniques (SevOne, Corvil, SMARTS)
- Good understanding of ITIL principles including Change Management best practices
- Experience of working in multinational enterprise environments
Knowledge & Experience:
- An understanding of Network Security including Fortinet competence for Firewall administration and support as well as ISE and NAC deployments as network authentication solutions
- Experience in configuring and managing Bluecoat proxy platforms & Cloud proxy services
- F5 load balancer configuration & troubleshooting
- Experience of working with Wireless technologies including Cisco controllers and Access Points
