POSITION DUTIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Using professional judgment performs a full range of city-wide accounting and reporting duties for all fund types including proprietary and fiduciary funds; maintains compliance with city, state and federal regulations (e.g. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Governmental Accounting Standards Board, OBM Circulars, Internal Revenue Service, State of Arizona, City of Tucson Charter/Code). The Senior Financial Accountant position is also required to be able to perform all essential functions of the Senior Accountant (Job Code 0832, Salary Grade 814).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:*
Position Specific Summary
The Senior Financial Accountant position at the City of Tucson’s Business Services Department performs a full range of city-wide accounting and reporting duties for the assigned funds, such as proprietary and fiduciary funds. This position ensures the integrity of the accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Financial Manager. This position leads and instructs the daily operational work of accounting personnel.
Duties and Responsibilities
Prepares, analyzes and submits monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for management review using the City’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, tenant and landlord ledger systems, bookkeeping system and Microsoft Excel. Maintains compliance with the city, state and federal regulations.
Ensures the integrity of the accounting information through review by verifying, consolidating, and entering transaction corrections within the software systems. Prepares and records asset, liability, revenue, and expense entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
Enters grant revenues and expenses into current ERP systems, including QuickBooks. Performs variance analysis and analyzes city-wide trends to ensure the accuracy of financial data, as well as budget-to-actual variances.
Acts as liaison with internal and external city-wide accounting issues as well as communication with customer departments. Aids others (internal and external) in reviewing and researching information
Works with auditors to complete external audits for all payroll, expense, revenue, balance sheet reports by analyzing and preparing supporting audit documents. Responds to auditor questions via email, during meetings or by providing supporting documents.
Assists supervisor with leading task as needed. Provides system support to lower-level staff. Provides guidance on technical accounting issues and ensuring accuracy in their work.
Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned, including special projects.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree
Work Experience:
Two (2) years of directly related experience
License:
Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Five (5) years or more experience in bookkeeping or Accounting
Knows the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Demonstrates strong technical accounting skills.
Demonstrates intermediate skills creating and managing worksheets, preferred knowledge with Microsoft Office Product: Excel.
Experience in grant financial management.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Full Hourly Range: $29.23 - 50.43 USD
