Requirements
  • A college diploma in business administration or a related discipline is required.
  • At least five years of progressively responsible leadership experience in the hospitality sector, ideally in a unionized environment, is required.
  • Demonstrated management experience in the transportation sector and a strong understanding of operational logistics are required.
  • Direct experience in passenger transportation services is required.
  • Knowledge of Transport Canada regulations concerning passenger rail operations is required.
  • At least two years of experience planning and executing emergency responses is required.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, is required.
  • Knowledge of point-of-sale and payment terminal systems such as Moneris, Square, and Stripe is required.
  • Experience with travel reservation platforms and reservation-system management is required.
  • The ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with internal teams, partners, and external stakeholders is required.
  • Commitment to occupational health and safety is required.
Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Senior Manager, Northlander and Service Excellence, to ensure an exceptional customer experience.
  • Coordinate with third-party service providers to ensure efficient and well-organized passenger boarding.
  • Collaborate with station staff to manage boarding queues and communicate passengers' special requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational processes, customer service, and the organization's ability to meet business needs.
  • Support schedule adherence by proactively addressing operational gaps and implementing corrective measures.
  • Maintain a visible presence during operating hours and actively collect and document employee and customer feedback to measure and improve customer satisfaction.
  • Remain available outside normal working hours to respond to irregular operating situations or customer-service issues requiring escalation.
  • Provide clear direction to crew members regarding passenger volumes, special handling requirements, and equipment updates.
  • Participate in occupational health and safety committees and collaborate with employees and departments to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable provincial and federal occupational health and safety requirements.
  • Participate in investigations involving workplace injuries, lost-time incidents, or property damage.
  • Ensure that health and safety policies and procedures are applied.
  • Review and maintain emergency response plans and ensure preparedness for service interruptions, accidents, and other unforeseen events.
  • Organize emergency response exercises with employees and external partners, including third-party transportation and accommodation providers.
  • Monitor the availability and condition of onboard safety equipment, coordinate replenishment with maintenance and procurement teams, and ensure daily checks are completed and documented.
  • Manage and monitor terminal agreements to ensure all contractual obligations are met.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication channels with station stakeholders to communicate service updates, delays, and changes.
  • Represent Ontario Northland at industry events and in the Toronto region as needed.
  • Liaise with rail mechanical teams to report and resolve equipment-related issues.
  • Collaborate with Bus Services and the Control Centre to coordinate boarding activities, manage passenger volumes, and support supplementary services.
  • Maintain a visible presence at Toronto bus-service locations, including Union Station, 407 Terminal, and Yorkdale, and support boarding operations and passenger flow as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bilingual proficiency in spoken English and French is considered an asset.
  • Practical knowledge of financial reporting tools and payroll software is considered an asset.
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification is considered an asset.
  • Supervisor training in occupational health and safety is considered an asset.
  • Exceptional customer-service and stakeholder-engagement skills are desirable.
  • Strong conflict-resolution and de-escalation skills are desirable.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are desirable.
