Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A valid driver's license is required; endorsements must be maintained as required for the position.
  • Candidates must pass a pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Candidates must pass a pre-employment Department of Transportation physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen.
  • Candidates must pass and maintain any required safety certification and annual testing.
  • Candidates must pass required color and vision examinations and be able to distinguish auditory signals.
  • Candidates must be able to lift and transfer up to 70 pounds for up to 100 feet, walk on uneven surfaces for up to 1 mile, climb an 18-step ladder while carrying up to 25 pounds, climb on and off equipment, push or pull with up to 50 pounds of force, use hand tools requiring up to 60 pounds of force, work in confined spaces as narrow as 18 inches, and perform repeated kneeling, bending, squatting, sitting, and standing.
  • Candidates must work in extreme weather, on uneven surfaces, around loud noise and heavy or moving machinery, and in a safety-sensitive environment.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are required.
  • Regular engagement, participation, and promotion of the company's culture and essential behaviors are required.
Responsibilities
  • Repair, maintain, test, and inspect grade crossing warning systems, train control devices, and communication facilities along the railroad system, including automatic block signal systems, traffic control systems, train control and cab signal systems, interlocking systems, railway highway grade crossing protection, and similar devices and systems.
  • Document work activities and inspections in accordance with railroad, state Department of Transportation, and Federal Railroad Administration requirements.
  • Respond to trouble calls regarding signal failures during and outside normal work hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Report safety violations to the immediate supervisor.
Desired Qualifications
  • Commercial Driver's License is preferred.
  • Previous signal maintenance training or experience is preferred.
  • Computer experience is preferred.
  • Mechanical comprehension and experience interpreting schematics and diagrams are preferred.
