Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university is required.
  • The candidate must be registered, or eligible for registration, as an Engineer-in-Training with EGBC.
  • The candidate should have 0–2 years of relevant experience in power systems, transmission and distribution, or substation design; co-op or internship experience is considered an asset.
  • Basic familiarity with substation protection and control systems is required or beneficial for the role.
  • Exposure to utility standards and industry codes, including CSA, IEEE, IEC, and the Canadian Electrical Code, is required or beneficial for the role.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD is required or beneficial for the role.
Responsibilities
  • Support the design of protection, control, and metering systems for electrical substations ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Assist in preparing one-line diagrams, protection schematics, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, interconnection diagrams, and protection and control design criteria and philosophies.
  • Prepare and review engineering documents, including specifications, reports, construction packages, and test plans.
  • Assist in developing outage staging plans and commissioning documentation.
  • Provide support for configuring protection relays and automation devices.
  • Review vendor drawings and technical submissions for alignment with project specifications and design intent.
  • Participate in design reviews, Safety by Design sessions, and constructability assessments.
  • Provide engineering support during construction and commissioning, including responding to requests for information and participating in site visits and field reviews.
  • Participate in factory acceptance testing and inspections as required.
  • Collaborate with civil and structural, electrical layout, telecommunications, and other multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated designs.
  • Manage assigned tasks within scope, schedule, and budget constraints to support project delivery.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to quality assurance and continuous improvement processes.
  • Travel to client sites as required during project execution.

Clearlake acquires power grid services platform Qualus from New Mountain Capital

Clearlake Capital Group has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Qualus Corporation, a power and electric grid services platform, from New Mountain Capital. Financial terms were not disclosed. Qualus provides integrated advisory, planning, engineering, digital solutions and field services supporting grid resiliency and sustainability. The company serves investor-owned utilities and commercial organisations, addressing technical complexity created by economic electrification and surging power demands. New Mountain Capital supported Qualus over the past five years during a period of significant growth. The acquisition will be financed by Apollo, Goldman Sachs Alternatives and Clearlake as joint lead arrangers. Clearlake manages over $185 billion in assets and focuses on operational improvements through its O.P.S. approach across multiple sectors.
