Requirements
  • At least one year of full-time paid experience in addiction counseling or equivalent experience, including three years of life experience with satisfactory recovery from alcohol or substance abuse.
  • Prior employment or volunteer history in a similar setting, or evidence of the ability to perform the listed responsibilities.
  • Completion of an approved course in Auricular Detoxification Acupuncture as an adjunctive treatment in a New York State-approved treatment program under the supervision of a licensed acupuncturist.
  • High school graduation is required.
  • Basic computer knowledge is required.
Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain positive, professional, courteous, and appropriate relationships with patients, visitors, and employees while supporting a positive public perception of the hospital.
  • Participate in departmental Performance and Quality Improvement activities, including data collection, analysis, corrective and improvement activities, CQI teams, clinical and performance standards, safety and security, risk management, infection control, and patient and customer service procedures.
  • Provide substance abuse counseling services, including psychosocial assessments, short- and long-term treatment, individual and group therapy, and crisis intervention.
  • Manage an active caseload of 50 patients.
  • Prepare required reports, case-record documentation, and statistics accurately.
  • Develop individual treatment plans as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and confidentiality in accordance with federal confidentiality guidelines and hospital standards.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary treatment team to provide patient care.
  • Conduct discharge planning, follow-up treatment, and referrals.
  • Perform Auricular Detoxification Acupuncture, if trained, under the supervision of a licensed acupuncturist.
  • Present cases according to schedule and record recommendations in case records during interdisciplinary case-conference treatment planning.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and attend relevant continuing-education programs as necessary.
