- Plan and complete the most complex and detailed technical projects from survey and engineering through site implementation.
- Develop and maintain high standards of installation and service, and assist with leading, training, and counseling network installation technicians toward high performance.
- Serve as a technical knowledge resource and company interface to the customer base.
- Provide proactive and responsive customer-focused leadership, communicate status, mitigate risks, and resolve field issues by reaching back to corporate resources when necessary.
- Work directly with Project Managers as the first line of communication for field installation teams supporting their projects.
- Work with the Master Scheduler to recommend and assign appropriate personnel to specific projects.
- Take responsibility for developing and assessing field deliverables before formal submission to the Project Manager.
- Maintain accountability for task-oriented work efforts of project-assigned personnel.
- Help ensure production schedules are met or exceeded.
- Work with Field Support leadership to set employee objectives, assess performance, contribute to annual reviews, and provide guidance to improve technical weaknesses.
- Assess employee skill levels and abilities and provide feedback to improve individual and team productivity.
- Provide input to the Training/QA Group on procedural documentation for field tasks, including BER testing, platform configurations, deliverables, and procedures.
- Develop training with the Training/QA Group for installation standards, general telecommunications skills, Telcordia installation techniques, safe power procedures, site safety, and industry best practices.
- Provide training on completing site surveys and creating detailed and accurate site survey reports.
- Develop skills for high-profile projects involving Ciena 6500, RLS, Waveserver, Cisco DWDM, and other specialized platforms.
- Help ensure team members are adequately trained and equipped with the tools necessary to succeed.
- Prepare and provide complex site reports, documents, diagrams, and Visio drawings to meet customer deliverable requirements, and train and certify others to develop the same proficiency.
- Instill operational and field quality expectations among network installation technicians.
- Provide project design support with Engineering when needed to meet customer objectives.
- Join joint Engineering-Field Service teams in the field to accomplish high-priority tasks.
- Provide onsite and remote technical direction in support of system deployment, configuration, commissioning, and testing.
- Monitor project and task issues and develop resolutions to meet schedule, quality, and client-satisfaction goals.
- Provide onsite direction at the start of complex or large tasks to properly start teams.
- Provide a single point of contact for field-related issues.
- Establish effective remote support solutions to help junior technicians develop system deployment skills with direct and immediate support.
- Conduct in-process and final job quality-assurance inspections with the Training/QA group.
- Coordinate with Logistics and outside vendors to resolve equipment delivery issues, shortages, and shipments of additional supplies and materials.
- Assess, monitor, and facilitate team-member professional growth.
- Assist with quarterly and annual personnel evaluations.
- Assist with developing objectives and goals for each team member.
- Evaluate team members and recommend team realignment to increase productivity and efficiency.
- Help review Site Completion Reports and Daily Status Reports.
- Coordinate with Engineering Management on changes and updates to engineering and technical documents.
- Participate in bi-weekly scheduling meetings and coordinate with Project Managers to meet company and customer objectives.
- Evaluate and help align scheduling priorities with Project Managers based on project timelines and customer requirements.
- Assist with scheduling assignments and activities for appropriate team members.
- Coordinate logistical requirements, including equipment, test sets, travel arrangements, and supplies.
