Requirements
  • A college or university degree from an accredited school or college is required.
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience in a related job discipline is required.
  • Current or eligible State of Illinois licensure or registration is required.
  • Eligibility to be privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office is required.
  • An advanced degree or equivalent from an accredited school or college of nursing, or completion of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc., is preferred.
  • Two or more years of clinical experience in a related specialty area is preferred.
  • Current Advanced Practice Nurse license and Registered Nurse license in Illinois, or eligibility to receive them by the start date, are required for the Advanced Practice Nurse pathway.
  • Current Physician Assistant license or registration in Illinois, or eligibility to receive it by the start date, is required for the Physician Assistant pathway.
  • Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants is required by the start date for the Physician Assistant pathway.
  • Ability to conduct physical examinations and health assessments is required.
  • Ability to interview patients and obtain medical information is required.
  • Willingness to enter into a written collaborative agreement with a collaborating physician upon hire is required.
  • Once licensed and as needed, willingness to apply for a controlled substance license and Drug Enforcement Administration number is required.
  • Willingness to be privileged and credentialed through the University of Chicago Medical Staff Office before the start date is required.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers is required.
  • A resume, cover letter, and reference contact information must be submitted with the application.
Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team using advanced clinical skills and knowledge.
  • Obtain medical histories and perform physical assessments.
  • Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests.
  • Prescribe appropriate treatments.
  • Screen patients.
  • Facilitate care in collaboration with surgeons.
  • Make referrals to other disciplines as necessary.
  • Provide inpatient and outpatient services as needed.
  • Design patient education programs containing information needed for informed health care and treatment decisions.
  • Evaluate goals and outcomes based on benefit versus burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness for the patient, family, and organization.
  • Develop diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve the goals and outcomes of the patient's plan of care.
  • Respond to adverse drug reactions, with special attention to vulnerable populations including infants, children, pregnant and lactating women, and older adults.
  • Develop and coordinate Advanced Practice Provider training and professional development activities.
  • Perform other related work as needed.
