Requirements
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in financial administration or a similar field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • Ten years of similar experience in accounting, financial project management, financial or economic analysis, accounting, mergers and acquisitions analysis, or similar fields, including five to seven years of team and/or complex-project management.
  • Experience in the hotel industry is strongly recommended.
  • Ability to evaluate and understand financial and economic issues affecting the business, analyze data, forecast future business directions, and develop effective financial plans.
  • Experience managing and developing employees.
  • Experience using accounting systems or similar financial software for financial analysis, reporting, and presentations.
  • Knowledge of financial accounting and budgeting regulations and procedures, including standards and techniques for capital-project management.
  • Ability to influence financial forecasts, cost and budget management, and the operations of assigned units.
  • Ability to maintain budget and financial-performance data, capital-expenditure records, and financial-status reports.
Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain the company's strategic financial culture in close collaboration with the General Manager.
  • Share responsibility with the General Manager for optimal operational performance while following company procedures and performance indicators.
  • Develop and manage relationships with executive committee members and managers to provide financial support and explain short- and long-term financial issues.
  • Control each department's financial performance and analyze variances, forecasts, and budgets.
  • Challenge existing strategies and recommend alternatives to improve business and financial management.
  • Participate in all hotel financial decisions related to revenue, expenses, and investments.
  • Assist department heads with corrective-action plans for internal and external audit reports.
  • Develop managers' financial knowledge and help them use financial information to improve departmental performance and compliance.
  • Participate in weekly revenue meetings to identify occupancy and revenue opportunities and risks across rooms, conference spaces, banquets, and other revenue streams.
  • Maximize forecast gross operating profit across departments.
  • Support the General Manager in maintaining relationships with owners and responding proactively to owner requests and initiatives in accordance with the management agreement.
  • Analyze and interpret financial data, communicate it clearly to operational managers, analyze balance-sheet accounts, and prepare monthly internal operational-performance reports.
  • Assist in developing and implementing benchmarking analyses to increase revenue, improve productivity, and control costs.
  • Identify and implement best practices that improve revenue, service quality, cost control, and productivity.
  • Prepare the annual budget, capital budget, and financial forecasts with the General Manager and department heads, and develop related procedures and guidelines.
  • Recommend methods and procedures to improve work schedules, work standards, forecasts, and operational support.
  • Continuously monitor departmental effectiveness and implement corrective measures when necessary.
  • Provide timely financial reports to management, headquarters, and owners in accordance with company and owner requirements and policies.
  • Manage all aspects of the capital-expenditure process and ensure tracking of fixed assets and depreciation.
  • Maintain accurate accounting data through accounting, payroll, expense, and other reports, and ensure regular and accurate recording of hotel financial and statistical data.
  • Prepare and interpret financial statements, accounting reports, statistical reports, and other reports required by headquarters, the General Manager, or owners, and communicate the results to management and department heads.
  • Ensure compliance with group, brand, tax, contractual, and partnership requirements.
  • Maintain leases, contracts, and other legal documents affecting the hotel's financial position, ensuring they are catalogued and updated.
  • Develop, document, and maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with control procedures.
  • Ensure cash balances meet operational needs, approve disbursements, and ensure funds are properly recorded and executed.
  • Approve discounts, adjustments, and allowances in accordance with company policy.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor credit procedures and rules in accordance with credit policies.
  • Supervise the Purchasing department and assist operations with supplier negotiations.
  • Optimize staffing costs and plan future personnel needs, including succession planning.
  • Recruit employees according to establishment procedures.
  • Prepare onboarding programs for new employees.
  • Ensure departmental standards and procedures are complete, current, and customer-oriented, and supervise their implementation.
  • Plan training activities.
  • Manage teams with a focus on employee development and identifying high-potential employees.
  • Conduct employee interviews in accordance with company human-resources policy.
  • Motivate, advise, and discipline staff while providing constructive performance feedback.
  • Approve leave requests while considering high- and low-activity periods.
  • Communicate regularly with the team to maintain a positive work environment.
  • Supervise the Purchasing and Information Technology departments with the relevant department heads to optimize costs and ensure procedural, security, and legislative compliance.
  • Ensure the Purchasing and Information Technology departments provide necessary operational support.
  • Monitor technology developments, conduct competitive comparisons, and perform market studies.
