Requirements
  • Applicants must have a PhD (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Theology, Religious Studies, or a closely related field, or be ABD nearing completion of the PhD.
  • Applicants must have teaching competency in Catholic social thought.
  • Applicants must have a specialization in topics of faith and health.
  • The successful candidate must maintain an active scholarly agenda.
  • The successful candidate must be able to fulfill advising and other service commitments.
  • Applicants must submit a curriculum vitae, a job-specific letter of application, and contact information for three professional references.
  • The cover letter must address the applicant’s interest in the position, teaching philosophy, approaches to current department curriculum, additional courses, research agenda and interests, and commitment to the University’s mission and convictions.
Responsibilities
  • Teach the introductory undergraduate theology course “Foundations,” potentially customizing it for faith and health topics.
  • Teach upper-level undergraduate theology courses serving St. Thomas undergraduates, especially students interested in the health professions, including Catholic Social Thought, Moral Theology, Faith and Healthcare Professions, and Bioethics.
  • Develop additional courses according to scholarly interests.
  • Integrate interreligious and multifaith perspectives in discussions of health and healthcare.
  • Develop courses that may satisfy core curriculum requirements in Diversity, Inclusion, and Social Justice or Global Perspectives.
  • Teach January-term courses on campus or abroad, including at the University’s Rome campus or another location.
  • Teach six four-credit in-person courses per year as the standard teaching load.
  • Maintain an active scholarly agenda.
  • Provide advising and perform other service commitments.

  • Ability to integrate interreligious and multifaith perspectives in discussions of health and healthcare.
  • Ability to develop courses satisfying the core curriculum requirements in Diversity, Inclusion, and Social Justice or Global Perspectives.
  • Interest in teaching abroad through the January-term program.
