Requirements
  • Knowledge and understanding of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of cancer biology.
  • Ability to perform basic cell and molecular biology techniques (cell culture of immortalized, cancer and normal cells; preparation of normal cells from animal tissues; DNA and RNA extraction; PCR, RT-PCR; clonogenic assay and other survival in vitro assays; viability assay; western blotting; comet assay; gH2AX staining, DNA fiber assay; monoclonal antibody production and analysis).
  • Abilities to work with small animals.
  • Abilities to inoculate tumor cells into mice in the form of intracranial injection.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills; must demonstrate the ability to effectively and professionally communicate and work with various individuals from a broad spectrum of disciplines, technical and educational backgrounds within the department, school and university, and with individuals outside the university.
  • Strong organization skills; ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines. Must demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy, time management skills, and follow-through.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively within a team. (Must be highly motivated, responsible, dependable and a self-starter).
  • Effective problem-solving skills; must demonstrate excellent analytical skills, sound judgment and good decision-making.
  • Must demonstrate flexibility and ability to work under pressure; must be able and willing to work in a fast-paced, changing environment, and conform to shifting priorities, demands and timeline.
  • Ability to operate laboratory equipment including PCR, RT-PCR, Western blotting apparatus, gel electrophoresis; elisa readers; luminometer; microscopes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (ex: Word, Excel, PowerPoint), knowledge of statistical software, array analysis software preferred.
  • Must demonstrate willingness to learn new techniques, procedures, processes, and computer programs as needed.
  • Must be able and willing to maintain a high standard of personal cleanliness and utilize protective gear to protect the health of the animals.
Responsibilities
  • Conducts research on specific areas of study as assigned.
  • Prepares research reports and technical papers for publishing.
  • Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories.
  • Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.
  • Develops advanced analytical models and systems and provides solutions and analyses to support strategic and tactical decisions.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Desired Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask preferred.
  • Experience with Immunohistochemical staining preferred.
  • Experience with sequencing data analysis preferred.
