As a Virtual Pharmacy Technician (Prior Authorization Specialist) at Virta, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our member population, which includes individuals with type 2 diabetes, obesity, and pre-diabetes, receives timely and effective medication management. You will handle prescriptions, prior authorizations, and insurance communications, supporting our healthcare providers and contributing to the success of our innovative diabetes reversal program.
Responsibilities
Manage and process prescriptions for our member population.
Handle prior authorizations, including reaching out to insurance companies for approvals.
Assist with billing and insurance-related inquiries and issues.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all pharmacy-related activities.
Act as a liaison between healthcare providers, pharmacies, and insurance companies to facilitate efficient communication and problem resolution.
Work through a queue of provider requests to ensure timely completion and follow-up.
90 Day Plan
Within your first 90 days at Virta, we expect you will do the following:
Gain a comprehensive understanding of Virta’s prescription and prior authorization processes.
Establish strong working relationships with pharmacies, insurance companies, and internal teams.
Assess current pharmacy-related processes, identify areas for improvement, and begin implementing enhancements to increase efficiency.
Familiarize yourself with all relevant systems and tools used in the pharmacy operations.
Contribute to high-priority projects, ensuring timely execution and supporting the overall success of the pharmacy team.
Must-Haves
2+ years of experience as a pharmacy technician or in a similar role.
Experience with handling prescriptions and prior authorizations.
Familiarity with electronic prescribing and prior authorization software.
Strong organizational skills with a focus on accuracy and thoroughness.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with pharmacies, insurance companies, and internal teams.
Flexibility in a high-speed environment, with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to implement strategic solutions.
Nice-to-Haves
Previous experience in a telehealth or digital health company, understanding virtual healthcare dynamics.
Experience working with ZenDesk or similar customer support platforms.
Understanding of healthcare regulations related to pharmacy operations and compliance to enhance operational effectiveness.
Experience with managing prescriptions and prior authorizations for GLP-1 medications.
Familiarity with diabetes and weight loss management.
