Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Food Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Four to six years of hands-on environmental health and safety experience in industrial environments, specifically within food manufacturing and/or distribution.
  • Strong working knowledge of California Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Cal/OSHA-related training in Injury and Illness Prevention Program, lockout/tagout, confined space, and hazard communication.
  • Direct experience with Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points principles and implementation in a food manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with Safe Quality Food standards and experience working within an SQF- or Global Food Safety Initiative-certified facility.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience working directly on production floors and in warehouse and logistics environments.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to engage frontline employees and leadership.
Responsibilities
  • Lead and evolve environmental health and safety programs across dairy manufacturing and distribution operations, ensuring compliance with California Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Food and Drug Administration, Department of Transportation, and environmental regulations.
  • Partner with Distribution Management and Human Resources to manage and continuously improve driver safety programs in accordance with Department of Transportation requirements, including oversight of safety practices for regional and route drivers.
  • Serve as a visible, trusted partner on the floor by coaching teams, identifying risks, and driving real-time improvements.
  • Champion a strong safety culture in wet processing areas, cold storage, high-speed production lines, and distribution operations.
  • Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and job hazard analyses across production, warehouse, and transportation functions.
  • Investigate incidents and near misses with a focus on root cause and prevention.
  • Partner with Human Resources Business Partners and Talent Leadership to design and deliver practical safety training, including lockout/tagout, machine guarding, ergonomics, confined space, personal protective equipment, and driver safety programs.
  • In partnership with Human Resources, lead regulatory interactions, including California Occupational Safety and Health Administration inspections, Department of Transportation compliance activities, and other agency requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that reduce injuries and improve operational and transportation safety performance.
  • Partner with Quality and Food Safety teams to support Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points programs, good manufacturing practices, and Safe Quality Food audit readiness.
  • Partner with Human Resources Business Partners and the People Operations team to execute and continuously improve safety programs, ensure California regulatory compliance, and support employee relations, workers' compensation, and return-to-work programs while contributing to broader enterprise-wide compliance and people initiatives.
Desired Qualifications
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration 30-hour General Industry training.
  • Professional certifications such as Associate Safety Professional, Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager.
  • Cal/OSHA-related training in Injury and Illness Prevention Program, lockout/tagout, confined space, and hazard communication.
  • Food safety certifications such as Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points certification, Preventive Controls Qualified Individual certification, or Safe Quality Food Practitioner training.
  • Experience supporting Safe Quality Food audits, good manufacturing practices programs, and food safety compliance initiatives.
  • Experience in dairy processing environments, including pasteurization, sanitation systems, and cold chain logistics.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish language skills.
