Requirements
  • One to three years of experience operating heavy machinery.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Ability to work both in a team and independently.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to perform strenuous outdoor work on rough terrain and in various inclement weather conditions.
  • Ability to learn quickly, demonstrate leadership, pay close attention to detail, and make sound decisions and solve problems.
  • Ability to work under pressure and stress and handle emergency situations.
  • Ability to complete work projects effectively and on time.
  • Ability to use safety procedures.
  • Physical ability to bend, squat, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Technical ability to use a smartphone and tablet.
  • English language proficiency is required.
Responsibilities
  • Operate heavy forestry equipment, including skidders, feller bunchers, log loaders, harvesters, delimbers, masticators, tracked skidders, dozers, excavators, chippers, and related machinery, as appropriate for each project.
  • Perform chainsaw felling operations, including directional felling, limbing, and bucking.
  • Manage slash operations, including lop-and-scatter, chipping, and hauling.
  • Perform road work, excavation, lifting work, and site cleanup.
  • Control erosion through contour felling and the creation and installation of water bars.
  • Complete and submit daily inspections and maintenance for assigned machines and request necessary repairs or maintenance from the Fleet Department.
  • Follow safety standards, promote a safety culture among crew members, use machinery and equipment properly, and resolve problems as they arise.
  • Participate in weekly job-site maintenance training conducted by the Foreman.
  • Perform equipment repairs and maintenance.
  • Spend multiple overnight periods at project sites as necessary.
  • Perform general forestry labor as necessary and appropriate.
