The Importance of the Role
The Senior Accountant will report to the Manager-Corporate Accounting, and will be responsible for managing the accounting, analysis, and reporting of Clinical organization accruals for various clinical trials. The Senior Accountant will work closely with other Finance functions including Accounts Payable, External Reporting, Procurement, and FP&A, as well as partnering with key members of the Clinical Operations organization to help them achieve their goals as it relates to financial discipline. The Senior Accountant will be a key individual contributor responsible for: preparing clinical study accruals and journal entries for various key areas of clinical activity, reporting expense information back to the Clinical Operations organization, and ensuring their responsible areas on the Company’s financial statements are prepared timely and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. The candidate will also work directly with FP&A to help provide insights into clinical study activity and how it relates to the Company’s approved budget. The successful candidate must have proven ability to thrive in a team environment, be willing to be a visible and active business partner for the functions they support, and demonstrate excellent time management in a hybrid work environment to meet various deadlines. They must also have proven to manage and maintain a variety of cross-functional relationships simultaneously in a fast-paced setting. The team particularly welcomes those with a curiosity to learn, interest in developing new skills, and desire to show initiative.
The Opportunity to Make a Difference
- Lead monthly meetings with various members in the Clinical Operations organization to understand study activities, report financial items, and review trends and future items to be tracked
- Provide business partners with key financial reporting information and operational support in working with various vendors, such as contract research organizations (“CROs”)
- Develop an understanding of accounting concepts and company’s financial policies with the wider business
- Prepare journal entries and reconciliations and ensure accounting treatment is in accordance with GAAP and corporate accounting policy for various clinical prepaids and accruals
- Work with FP&A to provide insights into clinical study activity and its relation to the Company’s approved budget
- Work with FP&A to assist the Clinical Operations organization in preparing and managing their clinical budgets and forecasts
- Prepare and present monthly and quarterly flux analysis for budget vs. actuals and period on period actuals vs. actuals to FP&A and relevant business partners, as well as to Finance leadership
- Assist the external reporting team with any audit-related requests that are impacted by the clinical accounting area as well as assist with Sarbanes-Oxley internal controls
- Contribute to efforts to continuously drive cross-functional improvements associated with processes, take corrective measures to mitigate issues noted, and enhance process to prevent recurrence
- Special projects for process or reporting improvements as identified
More about You
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required, or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of experience in accounting; preferably with experience in public accounting
- CPA or equivalent is preferred
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight periodic reporting deadlines
- Willingness to learn from team members and adapt to growing business needs
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Effective organizational skills
- Confident relationship management skills and comfortable communicator to all levels of the business
- Ability to work and problem-solve independently, but embraces teamwork and collaboration
- Effective critical thinking skills to brainstorm process improvements and create efficiencies
- Experience in using large ERP systems is a plus, preferably Oracle, though full training will be provided
- Proficient in using Microsoft Excel and an interest in data analytics tools or process automation

Sarepta is making a good faith effort to be transparent and accurate around our hiring ranges.
