SkyBox Labs is a game development studio that works on some of the world’s most iconic games. The studio is currently co-developing Halo Infinite, working on projects in the Minecraft universe, supporting the dev team at Bungie on Destiny 2: Lightfall, supporting development of Fallout 76, and working on original IP. SkyBox Labs is looking for an Intermediate Technical Artist to join our IP Division! This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside an exceptionally talented multidisciplinary team on new original AAA IP in the early stages of development.
In this role you will focus on environments, procedural tools and optimization, using your strong creative and technical skills to create immersive and highly performant environments within Unreal Engine 5. You will also be given ample opportunities for mentorship, learning and career development, allowing you to continuously expand your skill set and grow both personally and professionally.

A snapshot of your role:
- Collaborate with artists and designers to create visually stunning and optimized environments that align with the creative vision of the game
- Develop and maintain procedural tools and workflows to streamline environment creation and increase productivity
- Optimize assets and environments for performance without compromising visual quality
- Implement and iterate on lighting, shaders, materials, and post-processing effects to achieve desired visual aesthetics
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to environment art and contribute to the overall technical art pipeline
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to ensure seamless integration of assets into the game engine
Sound like you? This is what we’re looking for:
- 3+ years of professional work experience in the games industry as a Technical Artist with a focus on environments, OR as an Environment Artist with a strong technical leaning
- Experience working with modern game engines (familiarity with Unreal Engine is strongly preferred)
- Demonstrated proficiency in scripting (preferably in Blueprints)
- Proficiency with 3D modeling toolkits (e.g. Maya, Blender, 3Ds Max, etc.)
- Strong understanding of environment modeling, texturing, lighting, and composition
- Experience with procedural tools and workflows (e.g. Substance Designer, Houdini, etc.)
- Solid knowledge of optimization techniques for real-time environments
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Nice-to-haves:
- Experience working in Unreal Engine 5
- Experience in real-time visual effects with either Niagara in Unreal or VFX Graph in Unity
- Proficiency in Python, C# or C++
