Requirements
  • Knowledge of early childhood education, child development, and anti-bias education.
  • Knowledge of local educational and community resources and their use in the classroom.
  • Knowledge of bilingual language acquisition.
  • A high school diploma or GED is required for the Lead Teacher level.
  • Twelve units in Early Childhood Education, including required core units, and three units of infant/toddler coursework are required for the Lead Teacher level.
  • One year of experience with children ages 0–3 in a childcare setting is required.
  • An associate degree with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, including at least 24 units in Early Childhood Education and three units of infant/toddler coursework, is required for the Lead Teacher I level.
  • A bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, including at least 24 units in Early Childhood Education or Child Development and three units of infant/toddler coursework, is required for the Lead Teacher II level.
  • Completion of supervised student teaching or experience teaching preschool-age children is required for the Lead Teacher II level.
  • A California Child Development Associate Level Permit or Child Development Associate credential must be obtained and maintained.
  • Valid CPR, First Aid, and Food Handlers certifications must be obtained within the first two months of employment and maintained throughout employment.
  • A physical examination, TB clearance, drug screen, and required influenza, pertussis, and measles immunization records are required before the first day of employment.
  • A current criminal background check clearance, signed criminal record statement, and signed Acknowledgement to Report Child Abuse form are required before the first day of employment.
  • A valid California driver’s license, daily use of a personal insured vehicle, and a motor vehicle record acceptable to the insurance carrier are required.
  • The role requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, and balancing.
Responsibilities
  • Provide respectful, individualized primary care to assigned infants and toddlers, including feeding, diapering, and holding.
  • Assist with assigning children to primary care groups and planning individualized transitions into care.
  • Partner with parents through daily communication, scheduled home visits, and parent conferences to provide consistent, culturally sensitive care.
  • Plan and implement age-appropriate individual and small-group indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Set up, tear down, and clean indoor and outdoor play spaces.
  • Maintain classroom and outdoor play areas for cleanliness and safety, including sanitizing toys and equipment and assisting with laundry.
  • Maintain clean and sanitized eating, diapering, and napping areas and equipment.
  • Prepare and serve meals and snacks according to individual feeding plans.
  • Document care and developmental activities on individual daily records and other records for each child.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and meal counts.
  • Schedule and complete home visits at times convenient to parents.
  • Develop Individual Child Plans and Family Development Plans during each child’s and family’s phase-in and update the plans at least three times during the school year.
  • Attend mandated trainings, programs, conferences, and meetings.
  • Assist with personalized services for children with special needs using specialized training and equipment as provided.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
