Job Description
Building Operations Manager
We’re looking for a dedicated and hands-on individual to manage the day-to-day operations of assigned buildings and support all area-related events at the Missionary Training Center (MTC). The shift is Monday through Friday, 5:30am to 2pm. This is a leadership role that combines team coordination, operational excellence, and event support to ensure our facilities are clean, safe, and ready to serve their purpose in this unique and meaningful environment.
Working at the MTC means being part of something greater. You’ll help create a space that supports the training and preparation of missionaries from around the world. Your efforts behind the scenes directly contribute to their ability to learn, grow, and serve.
In this role, you’ll work hands on and closely with student employees - providing instruction, guidance, and support - while actively participating in building operations and event setups. You'll play a key part in training team members on safety protocols and proper use of equipment and chemicals specific to the area’s needs.
Key responsibilities include recruiting, hiring, mentoring, training, scheduling, time management, and ensuring high standards of cleanliness, safety, and customer service. This position also involves working closely with upper management and fulfilling other duties as assigned to support the success of the department.
What you’ll do in this position:
- Guide the development of student and non-student employees by working alongside them to teach, train, and mentor.
- Ensure that events scheduled in the buildings have proper set-ups, cleanups, takedowns, and communication.
- Perform daily cleanliness inspections of buildings.
- Keep in contact with patrons to ensure satisfaction and address any concerns.
- Provide leadership, training, and job oversight to all employees.
- Manage employee scheduling, time reporting, and approvals to ensure accuracy and accountability.
- Attend workshops, trainings, or conferences to improve leadership and job-specific skills.
- Engage in ongoing personal study and training to stay current with administrative and technical responsibilities.
What qualifies you for this role:
Required
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
- Due to the nature of this position in a female residence hall, the candidate must be female. This qualification is a Bona Fide Occupational Qualification (BFOQ) under Title VII.
- One year of professional experience in building operations or a similar industry.
Physical Exam and Lift Test Required:
Physical Effort
Moderate physical effort represented by frequent handling of medium weight objects (approx. 20-50 lbs.) and materials, or use of medium weight hand tools. May require climbing and working from ladders or in awkward positions.
- Vacuuming, running floor machines, buffers
- Genie lift
- Lifting tables, chairs, riser stairs
- Climbing ladders for cleaning, changing light bulbs, etc.
- Moving offices and other furniture for cleaning purposes
- Stripping, waxing, mopping, carpet cleaning and other physical activities associated with cleaning
Environment
Frequent exposure to unfavorable conditions such as all-weather, or working in cramped, very dirty, or unpleasant quarters.
- Work outside in winter shoveling snow
- Work in wet conditions cleaning restrooms
Hazards
Moderate existing or potential hazards.
- Noise from leaf blower
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals
- High and low work- stretching. Reaching, pushing, pulling etc.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree
- 3 years of building care experience
- 1-year supervisory experience
- Basic computer skills

Pay Grade: 49
Typical Starting Pay: $50,000.00 to $59,500.00
