Requirements
  • A BA/BS degree in geography, remote sensing, engineering, environmental science, natural resource management, or a related field is required.
  • Three years of professional experience with ESRI ArcGIS, customized map development, field data collection and GPS surveys, and geodatabase development and management are required.
  • Extensive knowledge of Geographic Information Systems and commercial GIS software such as ESRI ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online is required.
  • Experience creating web applications using Experience Builder, Dashboards, and Story Maps is required.
  • Knowledge of map creation, georeferencing, and multiple GIS tools is required.
  • Ability to automate tasks using ArcPy and ModelBuilder is required.
  • Imagery analysis skills are required.
  • Knowledge of LiDAR, multibeam, and side-scan sonar data is required.
  • Ability to perform extract, transform, and load operations on a wide variety of data formats and integrate them into GIS is required.
  • Familiarity with the Spatial Data Standard for Facilities, Infrastructure, and Environment is required.
  • The candidate must be a United States citizen and able to obtain and maintain a security clearance or favorable adjudication of a national security background investigation.
Responsibilities
  • Develop requirements for new and existing GIS solutions.
  • Provide graphic representations of measurement-facility ocean-related data.
  • Discover patterns and trends through spatial mapping.
  • Develop mapping applications and tools.
  • Manage a digital library of geographic maps in various file types.
  • Serve as a technical point of contact to others.
  • Provide detailed seabed mapping information using a GIS relational database that integrates existing and new data.
  • Provide direct support to analysts and engineers developing systems to acquire surface and subsurface ocean sensor data for monitoring the underwater ocean environment.
Desired Qualifications
  • Job experience with the Navy or other Department of Defense laboratories is a plus.
  • Knowledge of basic physical oceanographic principles is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of and experience with MATLAB, spreadsheets, statistical databases, and Structured Query Language are preferred.
  • Ability to utilize GIS data for asset management is desirable.
  • Occasional travel to other Navy sites may be required.
