Requirements
  • At least 8 years of electrical engineering experience, including at least 5 years focused on data centers or mission-critical facilities.
  • Strong experience leading medium-voltage and low-voltage electrical design, including HT/MV switchgear, LV distribution, N, N+1, N+2, and 2N topologies, centralized and modular UPS systems, continuous-rated generators, busbar trunking, earthing, and lightning protection.
  • Hands-on experience with high-density AI data-center power, including rack densities of 40 kW and above, rack-level busway, 48V DC architecture, and electrical interfaces for liquid-cooling systems.
  • Expertise in the UAE regulatory landscape, including DEWA, ADDC, and FEWA utility approval processes, Abu Dhabi Civil Defence electrical submissions, and PUE compliance pathways under the Dubai Universal Blueprint for AI.
  • Capability to perform power-system studies using ETAP or equivalent tools, including load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, arc-flash, and harmonics analysis.
  • Experience designing to Uptime Institute Tier III or Tier IV standards and familiarity with sequencing, testing, and audit frameworks including CAP, ICCA, and BCA.
  • Proficiency with ETAP or equivalent power-analysis tools, AutoCAD, and Revit-based BIM delivery at LOD350.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills, with the ability to lead senior-level technical discussions.
  • Ability to mentor engineers, establish design culture, and communicate complex power-systems concepts to non-electrical stakeholders.
  • A BE or BTech in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • Professional registration as a Chartered or Professional Electrical Engineer, or equivalent, is required.
Responsibilities
  • Act as the technical lead and subject-matter expert for mission-critical data-center projects, owning electrical system design, engineering, coordination, and commissioning support across the full lifecycle.
  • Act as the primary electrical and power-systems contact for clients by leading design reviews, system-architecture presentations, and bid discussions.
  • Engage directly with client-side subject-matter experts, utilities, global stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Lead technical discussions on power-distribution strategy, redundancy philosophy, risks, and trade-offs.
  • Prepare Electrical Basis of Design documents, Design Basis Reports, system-architecture narratives, and technical presentations.
  • Participate in proposal drafting and responses to requests for proposals and technical qualification requirements.
  • Own electrical design for medium-voltage and low-voltage distribution, substations, UPS systems, generators, busbar trunking, earthing, lightning protection, and rack-level power delivery.
  • Design hyperscale and colocation facilities in the 10–100 MW IT-load range from concept through issued-for-construction documentation.
  • Develop electrical solutions for high-density AI environments, including rack-level busway, 48V DC architecture readiness, CDU electrical interfaces, and resilient power distribution.
  • Coordinate utility requirements and UAE-specific electrical submissions, compliance, islanding, and emergency-response protocols.
  • Define resilience strategies and redundancy architectures aligned with Uptime Tier III and Tier IV standards.
  • Establish power-system topology from concept through schematic and detailed design, including the sequence of operations.
  • Perform and direct electrical load calculations, cable sizing, voltage-drop calculations, and power-balance studies.
  • Lead power-system studies covering load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, and harmonics.
  • Coordinate mechanical integration, including HVAC thermal loads on UPS systems, generator cooling requirements, and CDU electrical demand diversity factors.
  • Validate control philosophy, BMS/EPMS integration, and emergency-shutdown sequences.
  • Review electrical engineering calculations for alignment with TIA-942, IEC, IEEE, IS standards, and Uptime Institute guidelines.
  • Lead development of single-line diagrams, electrical layouts, equipment schedules, and issued-for-construction documentation.
  • Review and approve AutoCAD and Revit BIM models at LOD350 with coordinated multidisciplinary integration.
  • Resolve cross-discipline conflicts involving mechanical thermal interfaces, fire-safety routing, and structural cable trays.
  • Prepare technical specifications, bills of quantities, and request-for-proposal packages for vendor selection and evaluation.
  • Lead multidisciplinary coordination across mechanical, structural, architectural, fire-protection, BMS/EPMS, and BIM teams.
  • Interface with utilities on connection strategies, approval processes, and emergency-response protocols.
  • Support procurement through vendor technical evaluations, equipment approvals, bills-of-quantities review, and submittal reviews.
  • Provide technical support during construction, site inspections, and issue resolution.
  • Lead commissioning support, reliability validation, redundancy testing, and audit participation.
  • Develop internal design guidelines, lead the data-center electrical team, establish regional design standards and best practices, and drive design quality, risk management, and technical issue resolution.
  • Mentor electrical engineers and power-systems specialists and contribute to the data-center academy and regional thought-leadership program.
Desired Qualifications
  • Uptime Institute ATD or ATS certification.
  • Experience with battery energy-storage systems, grid-interactive UPS topologies, or hybrid power strategies for AI data centers.
  • Knowledge of 48V DC power-distribution architecture, OCP standards, and emerging AI power-delivery paradigms.
  • Familiarity with SF6-free medium-voltage switchgear and sustainable electrical architecture.
  • Experience with the KSA regulatory landscape, including MISA, the Saudi Council of Engineers, and the Vision 2030 data-center program pipeline.
  • Arabic language skills.

Ramboll to deliver engineering services for hydrogen project. Ramboll has announced that it has been appointed to deliver Owner's Engineer services by Barrow Green Hydrogen Ltd, part of the Green Hydrogen Energy Company (GHECO) portfolio - a joint venture between Schroders Greencoat and Carlton Power. The Barrow project is one of the earliest and largest awarded under the UK Government's first Hydrogen Allocation Round (HAR1) to reach a final investment decision, and will supply green hydrogen to Kimberly Clark's manufacturing site. The progress of the industry leading Barrow project represents a major step forward for the UK's hydrogen sector and its transition to a low carbon energy system. When operational, this supply of green hydrogen is expected to reduce natural gas consumption on the site by up to 50% and reduce CO[2] emissions by approximately 18 300 tpy. Ramboll has been working on the project since 2024 and moving forwards will be providing technical and programme assurance through detailed engineering, installation and commissioning. This will include contract administration, design and interface coordination, chairing Hazard and Operability studies, multidisciplinary technical reviews, and providing site support at key milestones.
