OpenEvidence builds AI-driven clinical decision support tools that help healthcare professionals make better choices at the point of care. It creates AI models and interfaces that integrate with existing platforms (notably through Mayo Clinic Platform Accelerate) and partner ecosystems like Elsevier Health to power products such as ClinicalKey AI. Clinicians use these tools inside their regular clinical workflows, with AI assisting by analyzing medical literature, guidelines, and patient data to suggest evidence-based options.

What believers are saying

  • Reported daily use by roughly 40% of U.S. physicians supports strong network effects.
  • Hospital and medical-center integrations can expand revenue beyond individual clinician usage.
  • DeepConsult and enterprise subscriptions create upsell paths from search into workflow automation.

What critics are saying

  • Publisher partners can revoke content access, weakening citation quality and product defensibility.
  • A bad clinical answer can trigger malpractice claims, procurement freezes, and physician churn.
  • Microsoft Nuance, Epic, and OpenAI can bundle competing copilots into existing workflows.

What makes OpenEvidence unique

  • Peer-reviewed medical answers with inline citations distinguish OpenEvidence from generic chatbots.
  • Free access for verified physicians lowers friction and accelerates clinical adoption.
  • Partnerships with NEJM and Elsevier strengthen content quality and distribution.
