Requirements
  • Completion of a state-approved unlicensed assist personnel program, documented proof of meeting exempted unlicensed assist personnel guidelines, or enrollment in an unlicensed assist personnel program through SSM Health upon hire.
  • If hired in Oklahoma or Wisconsin, completion of the Clinical Partner I orientation checklist during the 90-day orientation or probationary period.
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
  • The position requires constant standing and walking, frequent communication using hearing and speech, frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of objects weighing 0-25 pounds, frequent reaching, gripping, and keyboard use or data entry, and frequent near and far vision with color discrimination.
  • The position occasionally requires bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, sitting, squatting, repetitive foot or leg and hand or arm movements, distance and spatial-relationship judgment, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects weighing 25-50 pounds, lifting or moving patients, detecting odors by smell, and driving.
Responsibilities
  • Receive patient care assignments from the registered nurse in charge and initiate delegated tasks based on demonstrated competence for the patient age group served.
  • Collect and document data for admission assessments, reassessments, and scheduling appointments or surgeries; provide appropriate data to the registered nurse or licensed practical nurse for analysis and validation of the patient's response to care or treatment and when significant changes occur.
  • Inform the licensed nurse of changes in patient condition or needs, patient complaints, and patient or significant-other educational needs.
  • Stock and maintain supplies and equipment according to patient care needs and cost-containment requirements, using time and supplies economically.
  • Assist with delegated clerical duties, including answering telephones, relaying messages, transcribing physician orders, and preparing and organizing patient medical records.
  • In an inpatient environment, answer patients' calls for help, take vital signs, monitor behavior and physical condition for progress or deterioration, and assist with bathing, ambulation, feeding, skin care, personal and oral hygiene, and occupied and unoccupied beds.
  • Perform dressing changes, enemas, ostomy care, toileting, turning, cough and deep breathing exercises, catheter care, biological specimen collection, and measurement and recording of fluid intake and output.
  • In an inpatient environment, prepare patients for discharge, accompany them upon dismissal as indicated, and orient new patients and significant others to the nursing unit.
  • In an outpatient environment, manage referrals for medical and surgical specialist appointments and assist in patient care for patients aged three years or older.
  • Perform point-of-care testing according to policies and procedures.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
