Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field and eight years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Professional experience in the hospitality industry, particularly venue management, including at least two years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • A thorough understanding of sales strategies and tactics with demonstrated success in sales and business development.
  • Thorough knowledge of event planning and catering best practices.
  • Experience budgeting and managing the finances of a program or department.
  • Competence using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Experience or competence using customer relationship management software.
  • Experience or competence using social media platforms for business development.
  • The ability to inspire and lead a team toward a common vision, establish strategic goals and plans, formulate policies, and make decisions in the institution's best interests.
  • The ability to gather, maintain, analyze, and evaluate data and information to inform business decisions and solve problems effectively.
  • The ability to build strong working relationships and communicate clearly, accurately, and promptly with staff, colleagues, leadership, university departments, and external vendors.
  • The ability to communicate expectations, delegate tasks, provide training and mentoring, resolve conflicts, and provide timely performance feedback.
  • The ability to manage time and resources, coordinate multiple projects, delegate and follow up, and meet targets.
Responsibilities
  • Provide overall leadership for the Shelby Campus Conference Center.
  • Set the vision, establish strategic direction, and develop operational goals and plans for the unit.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership for conference center operations, sales and marketing, leasing management, and stewardship of Shelby Campus.
  • Hire, train, supervise, coach, and evaluate staff; establish a healthy, inclusive, and positive work environment; and ensure compliance with university and Delphi Center policies.
  • Develop and optimize unit policies, procedures, and systems to improve efficiency, effectiveness, productivity, and profitability.
  • Consult with university business operations, procurement, University Counsel, and other leaders to ensure operational compliance with university policies.
  • Participate in Delphi Leadership Team meetings and activities supporting division-wide initiatives.
  • Develop and manage the unit's financial budget, monitor financial performance, and provide monthly and year-end financial reporting to the Vice Provost.
  • Use Momentus and other tools to support forecasting and data analysis for financial decision-making.
  • Oversee leasing operations, including sales, contract development and execution, tenant relationships, and maximizing revenue from unused or underutilized space.
  • Serve as the university liaison for the security, maintenance, and stewardship of Shelby Campus buildings and grounds.
  • Collaborate with university departments and external partners on campus security, maintenance, and stewardship.
  • Formulate and execute sales and business development plans to maximize conference center occupancy and achieve revenue and profitability goals.
  • Collaborate with marketing on communications, promotions, and social media.
  • Respond to sales inquiries, follow up with prospects, conduct tours, write and manage proposals, book events in Momentus, and oversee contract development.
  • Coordinate with the unit to ensure a seamless transition from sales to event execution.
  • Provide customer service that supports client satisfaction and repeat bookings.
