Requirements
  • Three to five years of experience with AutoCAD or a background in mathematics.
  • Ability to review architectural, mechanical, site, and structural drawings, complete site surveys, and research essential information for structural and mechanical elements.
  • Ability to integrate mechanical systems with integrated systems and recognize potential conflicts with other trades.
  • Knowledge of NFPA standards, insurance requirements, and fire and building code requirements.
  • Ability to communicate with the Design Manager and Field Superintendent regarding design, installation, and testing of devices and systems throughout projects.
  • Ability to organize, plan, and prioritize multiple projects to meet deadlines with attention to detail and communication skills.
  • Ability to pass various background checks.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving record for use of a company vehicle.
Responsibilities
  • Design, coordinate, and submit integrated systems drawings and material/equipment schedules.
  • Create drawings using project scope, architectural drawings, job specifications, site surveys, and relevant codes.
  • Handle design layout, field checking, material and equipment submittals, installation requirements, and closeout procedures.
  • Review architectural drawings, mechanical plans, site plans, and conduct site surveys.
  • Coordinate integrated systems with other mechanical systems.
  • Ensure compliance with fire and building codes, NFPA standards, and insurance requirements.
  • Provide purchasing updates when installation schedules or change orders require modifications.
  • Communicate with the Design Manager and Field Superintendent throughout the project.
  • Monitor and enforce safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist and train less experienced designers as a leader and mentor in the Design Department.
  • Interpret instructions and directives from the supervisor accurately.
  • Communicate with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, architects, engineers, and authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Review project documents and information to determine scope.
  • Request information from the sales manager, project manager, contractor, or owner as needed.
  • Check layouts against estimates or design information sheets.
  • Prepare equipment and material submittals.
  • Submit designs for review, approval, and permitting.
  • Respond to requests for additional information and revisions.
  • Update designs based on job site changes and code requirements.
  • Manage change orders to the customer's satisfaction.
  • Submit material lists and requisition devices.
  • Conduct site visits to survey layouts, review work progress, and assess design changes.
  • Prepare as-built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, and other closeout documents upon project completion.
Desired Qualifications
  • NICET Level II or III certification, or equivalent experience.
  • An associate or bachelor's degree in drafting or AutoCAD.
