Requirements
  • Experience with a three-dimensional computer-aided design system, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Experience with phase-gate design control processes.
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing environment, including knowledge of manufacturing methods predominantly involving metals and plastics.
  • Knowledge of the use and interpretation of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and comfort presenting to senior management.
  • An undergraduate degree in mechanical or biomedical engineering, with an emphasis in biomaterials and biomechanics.
  • Three to five years of product development experience, preferably in spine or implantable orthopedic medical devices.
  • For United States roles requiring access to hospital facilities, eligibility to obtain and maintain credentials at all required hospitals, including applicable physical or vaccination requirements.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
Responsibilities
  • Develop new products and enhance existing products under routine supervision.
  • Lead or serve as a member of project teams.
  • Create designs, models, and drafts using a three-dimensional computer-aided design system.
  • Assist with development processes for Manufacturing, Quality Control, Regulatory, and Planning for assigned projects.
  • Design, develop, and process implants and instruments using SolidWorks computer-aided design software.
  • Lead development of new products and manufacturing processes or serve as a project team member.
  • Direct development of working prototype models for project design evaluation.
  • Manage designers or co-ops.
  • Generate protocols for testing and analyzing new and current products.
  • Generate design assurance documentation for the project Design History File.
  • Develop quality control procedures and inspection methods.
  • Initiate design changes related to manufacturability while maintaining critical product features for in-house manufacturing or vendors.
  • Lead or serve on cross-functional product development teams responsible for new product development from concept through product launch.
  • Provide technical input to marketing counterparts on collateral marketing materials.
  • Provide technical expertise to marketing and sales regarding the intent of the design function.
  • Provide technical experience to Regulatory Affairs to support Food and Drug Administration 510(k) submissions.
  • Create and process Engineering Change Orders.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
