Responsibilities
  • The Certified Medical Assistant is trained to perform approved clinical and non-clinical tasks and technical procedures under the direct supervision of a Medical Provider, LPN or RN
  • Assist Clinical Team in providing patient care per St. John's Medical, PC policy and procedure as appropriate to the ages of the patients served and the area of-clinical practice
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic milieu by fostering an awareness of the clinical patient population
  • Demonstrate competence in patient care procedures and technical skills appropriate to the clinical area and needs of the patient population served
  • Perform phlebotomy, various point of care testing, vital signs, Urinalysis, EKG, collect and process specimen
  • Report/refer issues/abnormal data to the Medical Provider as needed and complete all related documentation
  • Ensure all specimens are packaged and labeled appropriately by end of day
  • Identify changes in the patients' condition and basic patient care needs. Institutes appropriate interventions per policy and refers accordingly to the Medical Provider
  • Maintain a safe environment for the patients and staff and applies the appropriate precautions and protocols (OIISA, Infection Control, HIPAA, etc.)
  • Demonstrate knowledge of ambulatory care setting and work-flows germane to multi-specialty office setting
  • Assist patients with administrative delivery of care such as, Disability and Workers Compensation paperwork, Home Health paperwork, authorizations, and act as a patient navigator when applicable
  • Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT4, HCPCS coding, as well as Workers Compensation/No Fault front end responsibilities (C4, MG2, etc.)
  • Document all patient care or tasks in the patients' medical records (Electronic and hard copy) and adheres to the policies and procedures set forth by SJR Medical, PC. Follows "Down Time" procedures when applicable
  • Accurate collection and documentation of MIPS data in EMR during patient visit; complete intake of all the physical, surgical and social history
  • Daily use of Electronic Practice Management System (currently MedGen) and adheres to all policies and procedures related to workflows in MedGen as well as appropriate use of MCdGen
  • Administrative tasks as assigned: filing, photocopying, scanning
  • Demonstrate knowledge of insurance companies, ICD-10, CPT coding, and general wherewithal of front desk responsibilities
  • Maintain par level of supplies, ordering and stocking rooms
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships and provides support to other staff in the performance of their duties within the scope of the CMA/MA position/certification
  • Accept and complete directions as delegated by the Medical Provider(s) and members of the management team (Office Manager, Director of Practice Management and St. John 's Administration)
  • Attend business related meetings as requested
  • Assist within other areas of-the practice when required
  • Travel between sites required as assigned- based on coverage needs
  • Provide customer service in accordance to clinic mission
  • Demonstrate ability to be courteous and respectful when interacting with patients, patient's family members/caregivers, co-workers, and all other individuals
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance to policy and procedure and HIPAA Requirements
  • Enact proper chain of command for patient complaints, office and practice needs that require management input and awareness

St. John's Riverside Hospital St. John's Riverside Hospital, a leading community-based healthcare provider in Yonkers, New York, recently experienced a data breach that potentially exposed personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI) of at least 2,238 individuals across the U.S. According to a disclosure filed with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on Nov. 14, 2025, the breach originated from unauthorized access to a limited number of employee email accounts. The incident was discovered in September 2025, when the hospital detected suspicious activity involving the distribution of phishing emails and an attempt to reroute payment funds. The compromised email accounts contained a range of sensitive information. For some individuals, the exposed data included personally identifiable information (PII) such as name, date of birth, Social Security number, driver's license or state identification number and financial account number. For others, protected health information (PHI) was involved, including health insurance details, medical condition information, treatment provider name, medical record number, treatment cost information and diagnosis or treatment information. St. John's Riverside Hospital's response. Upon discovering the breach, St. John's Riverside Hospital immediately took steps to secure its systems. The hospital changed passwords, revoked session tokens, reset multifactor authentication and engaged data security and privacy professionals to investigate the incident. The unauthorized activity was contained and remediated, and the hospital conducted a thorough analysis to identify affected individuals.
