Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in aerospace, electrical, mechanical engineering, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of eight years of aerospace experience leading safety engineering activities at the aircraft or system-of-systems level.
  • Proven ability to plan and deliver multiple safety analyses and workstreams to aggressive schedules.
  • Strong experience across the safety lifecycle delivering various functional safety analyses, including AFHAs, PASAs, PRAs, ZSAs, and ASAs.
  • Prior experience with complete original equipment manufacturer aircraft development programs doing systems safety and reliability from initial design through industrialization.
  • Excellent understanding of Federal Aviation Administration and European Union Aviation Safety Agency certification processes for aircraft and subcomponents.
  • Strong working knowledge of SAE ARP4754A, SAE ARP4761, PL.2510, and 23.1309.
  • At least three years of experience with one or more 14 CFR Airworthiness Standards: Parts 23, 25, 27, 29, 33, 34, or 35.
  • Experience working on novel air vehicles such as eVTOL aircraft, rotorcraft, multi-rotors, or UAS.
  • Experience with 2X.1309, PL.2510, and relevant regulations and guidance materials.
  • Experience conducting Particular Risk, Zonal Safety, Common Mode, or Reliability analyses.
  • Awareness of the interrelationship between cybersecurity and safety.
  • Understanding and experience using fault tree and failure analysis software and tools for safety systems.

Responsibilities
  • Own the System Safety function for assigned aircraft programs and ensure development and execution of the overall safety strategy throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Serve as the technical authority and primary decision-maker for system safety matters, providing direction, prioritization, and risk disposition recommendations.
  • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of system safety activities across engineering disciplines, suppliers, and external partners.
  • Represent the safety organization in executive reviews and communicate program safety status, risks, and recommendations.
  • Influence technical and program decisions by balancing safety, certification, performance, cost, schedule, and operational considerations.
  • Lead supplier and partner engagements related to safety analyses, compliance activities, and risk management.
  • Provide leadership for safety compliance activities supporting aircraft certification, regulatory approval, and program milestones.
  • Act as a primary interface with certification authorities, designated representatives, and external stakeholders on safety-related topics.
  • Plan, lead, and review system safety analyses across the aircraft, including FHA, PSSA, SSA, CMA, PRA, and ZSA, and define and verify system safety requirements and safety analysis artifacts.
  • Develop and uphold a structured, auditable, and proactive safety process aligned with SAE ARP4754A, SAE ARP4761, and PL.2510.
  • Ensure cross-functional integration of safety requirements and risk mitigations with design, test, flight operations, and compliance teams.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to engineering and cross-disciplinary research and development teams developing and certifying passenger-carrying eVTOL aircraft.
  • Mentor, coach, and provide technical leadership to safety engineers and cross-functional engineering teams in Safety System Engineering best practices.
  • Apply safety engineering principles to investigation, analysis, planning, design, development, testing, evaluation, and implementation of eVTOL systems.
  • Review and prepare safety engineering and technical analysis reports and other technical documentation.
  • Apply safety engineering principles to system integration, configuration management, and testing.
  • Drive consistency, quality, and continuous improvement of safety processes, methods, tools, and standards across the organization.
  • Influence aircraft design to improve system safety features and design.

Hyundai jumps on the eVTOL train under new partnership. Thu, May 14, 2026 Car maker signs mou with Korea Aerospace Industries to develop electric aircraft. Hyundai has finally put its six years of eVTOL development rumors into writing, inking a Memorandum of Understanding with Korea Aerospace Industries for the creation of future Advanced Air Mobility aircraft. Within the duo, Hyundai is responsible for bringing the electric powertrain and mass-production experience, and KAI brings the aircraft development side. The memorandum of understanding was signed in Seoul with senior executives from both companies, including Hyundai Motor Group Vice Chair Jaehoon Chang and KAI President and CEO Jong-chool Kim. Under the agreement, Hyundai's US-based air mobility subsidiary, Supernal, will work with KAI on the aircraft itself. Hyundai Motor Group and KAI also collaborate on electrified aviation powertrains. The companies have already started working through the nitty-gritty, claiming that the partnership will extend into supply chains, certification, and global customer networks. Certification alone is a major hurdle, but luckily, KAI's experience with fixed-wing and rotorcraft programs gives Hyundai something it missed from doing automotive engineering alone. While the announcement was new, the idea was not. The company unveiled its urban air mobility vision at CES in 2020 and later created Supernal in 2021 to push the concept toward real aircraft development. Supernal has since showcased a battery-electric eVTOL concept aimed at short urban trips, with earlier plans pointing toward commercial use later this decade. KAI is taking the partnership as a way to expand out of its military-heavy portfolio and move deeper into civilian aviation. The company has built aircraft such as the KT-1 trainer and has been working on AAM technologies ranging from electric distributed propulsion to even AI-pilot demonstrator concepts. The partnership also carries history. Hyundai was once tied to KAI through Hyundai Space and Aircraft, but that relationship ended after Hyundai sold its KAI stake in 2016.
