The Job/What You’ll Do:
As the VP of Investment Consulting, you will lead the investment consulting team, partnering closely with the Chief Investment Strategist to develop and execute strategic initiatives. Your primary responsibility will be to oversee the investment consulting service driving asset growth, expanding service offerings, and optimizing operational efficiency across business channels. This role requires a high level of collaboration with cross-functional teams and involvement in key investment decisions, including model portfolio management and the development of new services.
We can consider candidates for this position who are able to accommodate a hybrid work schedule and are close to one of our following offices: Concord, CA, or Phoenix, AZ.
Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and implement the strategy for the investment consulting business, expanding into new channels and markets.
- Identify growth opportunities and create actionable plans to scale the business.
- Business Growth & Efficiency:
- Build and expand assets using on platform through enhanced scale and technology solutions.
- Identify opportunities to improve the investment consulting experience and streamline operations.
- Collaborate with internal teams to identify areas for enhancement based on client needs.
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead and manage the consulting team, fostering a high-performance culture.
- Mentor consultants to support their professional growth and align their goals with company objectives.
- Oversee daily operations, ensuring the team meets client expectations and deadlines.
- Implement transparent processes to ensure consistent decision-making.
- Client Engagement:
- Act as a key executive for client relationships, engaging directly with advisors to present services and secure business.
- Lead consulting engagements, portfolio strategy discussions, and the development of custom model-based solutions.
- Ensure long-term client satisfaction by delivering exceptional service and support.
- Public Speaking & Presentations:
- Lead presentations on investment strategies, model portfolios, and performance reviews.
- Present business strategies across internal teams to ensure alignment on key goals and project initiatives.
- As needed, represent the firm at industry events and conferences, communicating AssetMark’s value proposition.
- Operational Efficiency:
- Drive cross-organizational projects focused on operational efficiency within the consulting business.
- Ensure best practices are consistently applied, improving scalability and service delivery.
- Cross-Organizational Collaboration:
- Partner with senior leadership and other departments to integrate the consulting business with broader wealth and asset management services.
- Collaborate on initiatives that promote growth, efficiency, and cross-departmental cooperation.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Proven leader within an Investment Consulting or OCIO environment
- Proven track record in developing business strategies, expanding into new channels, and attracting financial advisors to new services.
- Expertise in multi-asset class portfolios, portfolio management, and client relationship management.
- Strong team management experience with a demonstrated ability to develop talent.
- Excellent presentation, communication, and leadership skills, including experience in public speaking and media engagements.
- Strong analytical, operational efficiency, and process management skills, with a focus on accuracy and business performance improvement.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field (MBA, CFA, or CAIA preferred).
- 15+ years of experience in investment consulting, wealth management, or institutional asset management, with a focus on business scaling.
- Experience leading OCIO services is preferred.
Compensation: The Base Salary range for this position is between $215,000 -300,000.
This information reflects a base salary range that AssetMark reasonably expects to pay for the position based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and actual work location. This position will also be eligible for additional variable incentive compensation and competitive benefits.
