Requirements
  • At least 3 years of experience in quality assurance, quality control, or supplier quality within food, beverage, dietary supplement, nutraceutical, pet food, or comparable consumable manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points principles, or an equivalent food safety management framework, applied to consumable manufacturing.
  • Ability to read and critically assess Certificates of Analysis, microbiological reports, batch records, and specification sheets, including recognizing incomplete, inconsistent, or insufficient documentation for product release.
  • Familiarity with microbiological testing parameters and specification limits in a consumable category.
  • Experience working with third-party inspection, audit, or laboratory partners.
  • Fluent written and spoken English for internal reporting and supplier correspondence.
  • Strong documentation discipline and organized record-keeping.
Responsibilities
  • Manage day-to-day quality-control coordination for supplements and pet consumables across an assigned supplier portfolio.
  • Confirm that required quality, testing, and documentation checks are complete before product release.
  • Coordinate shipment readiness among suppliers, inspection agencies, quality assurance, procurement, and operations.
  • Determine whether the available evidence for a batch is complete and sufficient for release, and hold shipments when it is not.
  • Review, verify, and organize Certificates of Analysis, microbiological reports, raw-material and finished-good laboratory results, batch records, and specification sheets.
  • Confirm that batch documentation aligns with approved product specifications, formulation requirements, and destination-market standards.
  • Verify labeling and packaging compliance against approved artwork and regulatory requirements for each market.
  • Coordinate testing and review for contamination-sensitive categories, including yeast and mold, Salmonella, E. coli, coliforms, and other product-specific hazards.
  • Review results against specification limits and escalate out-of-specification, incomplete, or inconsistent results before release.
  • Identify recurring patterns indicating systemic hygiene or process-control issues.
  • Arrange third-party inspections with scopes appropriate for consumable manufacturing.
  • Ensure inspection scopes cover hygiene controls, batch segregation, cleanliness, allergen controls, storage conditions, traceability systems, process discipline, and documentation practices.
  • Assess whether facilities can consistently produce compliant consumable products and report findings to the Quality Manager.
  • Determine whether pre-shipment inspection alone is sufficient for each product and supplier or whether additional controls are required.
  • Coordinate additional controls, including laboratory-result review, batch-documentation verification, formulation confirmation, label-compliance checks, and traceability confirmation, and confirm closure before shipment approval.
  • Work with internal stakeholders and suppliers on formulation accuracy, ingredient specifications, dosage, composition consistency, and raw-material controls.
  • Ensure quality-control processes reflect current approved formulations and technical specifications during product changes, supplier changes, and new-product introductions.
  • Verify that finished goods can be traced to the correct batch records, production dates, testing records, and supplier documentation.
  • Ensure traceability data is complete and usable for audits, complaint investigations, product holds, and recalls.
  • Follow up with suppliers and inspection partners regarding missing Certificates of Analysis, incomplete batch records, failed microbiological results, specification deviations, and labeling inconsistencies.
  • Track corrective actions to closure and ensure required open issues are resolved before release.
  • Monitor quality risk across United States and South American suppliers and identify weak points in supplier controls.
  • Escalate when tighter release criteria or additional intervention is warranted.
  • Establish quality-control approaches for new suppliers and products, including testing expectations, documentation requirements, traceability controls, inspection scope, and release criteria before regular production begins.
  • Maintain organized and current quality-control records, including inspection reports, Certificates of Analysis, laboratory results, batch documentation, deviation logs, and corrective-action tracking.
  • Support customer requests, internal reviews, supplier-performance tracking, and quality-system or regulatory audits.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with dietary supplements, nutraceuticals, or pet consumables such as chews, treats, rawhide alternatives, or similar products.
  • Experience with European Union or United Kingdom market requirements for supplements or pet food.
  • Prior work with manufacturers or exporters in South America.
  • Working Spanish and/or Portuguese for direct communication with suppliers across the region.
  • Familiarity with third-party certification schemes including SQF, BRCGS, and FSSC 22000.
  • A degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, Veterinary Science, Nutrition, or a related technical field.

Unybrands acquires and scales small to mid-sized online businesses in the e-commerce space, focusing on founders looking to sell. The process runs from an initial discovery call to finalizing the deal within 4-6 weeks. A dedicated team analyzes the brand’s operations, marketing, supply chain, and logistics, then designs and implements a growth strategy and handles a smooth onboarding to ensure a seamless transition. The team’s deep e-commerce and Amazon FBA experience, plus a global presence across three continents with many former Amazon sellers, helps lift each acquired brand to higher performance. Revenue comes from the growth and success of the brands it owns. The company’s clear emphasis on transparency covers the acquisition structure, onboarding, and growth milestones. The goal is to provide founders with a painless exit and establish Unybrands as the first call when they’re ready to sell their next business.
