  • Direct experience with FedRAMP authorization or ATO processes strongly preferred.

  • Hands on experience with Gitlab, Markdown and MkDocs.
  • Prior experience in the public sector (government or defense) is a major plus, or experience delivering products in highly regulated industries.
Responsibilities
  • Executing product strategy: Work closely with stakeholders to understand and execute a product strategy that aligns with the company's overall business goals. This may include conducting market research, analyzing customer needs and preferences, and collaborating with engineering and security to identify technical requirements.
  • Develop and execute a product roadmap: Contribute to and maintain a product roadmap that prioritizes the most important customer-centric capabilities, with clear communication to stakeholders on progress and release schedule.
  • Maintain product backlog: Work with cross-functional teams to define the technical requirements for the product. Including creating user stories, acceptance criteria, wireframes, and prototypes, as well as collaborating with engineers to ensure technical feasibility. Prioritize backlog based on product strategy and inputs from both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Managing the development process: Drive the design and development of new features and enhancements and oversee the product development process to ensure the product is developed to specification and delivered on time. This includes managing agile development sprints, tracking progress, and communicating with stakeholders about status updates.
  • Collaborating with designers: Work with designers to turn feature requests and product requirements into wireframes, workflows, and designs. Conduct design reviews with engineers and functional stakeholders and ensure diverse technical and functional feedback is incorporated in the designs prior to ticketing work.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, security, sales, product marketing, and customer success, to ensure successful product launches and alignment with business objectives.
  • Tracking product performance: Track key product metrics, such as user engagement and revenue, to evaluate the product's performance and make data-driven decisions about future development.
  • Foster customer advocacy: Act as an advocate for modern customer-centric product management best practices among our customers, internal stakeholders and the broader market. Interface directly with customers, including partnering with customers to build an MVP and mature it into a full product.

Second Front Systems connects the commercial software industry with U.S. government defense and national security sectors. Its main product, Game Warden, is a managed DevSecOps platform that simplifies the process of getting commercial software approved for government use. By integrating security practices into the software development lifecycle, Game Warden helps speed up the Authorization to Operate (ATO) process, ensuring that software meets government security standards for faster deployment. Unlike competitors, Second Front Systems focuses specifically on the needs of defense and national security professionals, providing a subscription-based service that includes ongoing updates and compliance management. The goal is to enable government agencies and defense contractors to deploy secure software solutions quickly, allowing them to concentrate on their primary missions.

  • The expansion of the leadership team with experienced professionals like Aaron Creel, Sam Gray, and TJ Rowe suggests a robust strategy for scaling and innovation.
  • Collaborations with major tech companies and government-focused initiatives, such as the ATO Accelerator with Google Public Sector, position Second Front Systems as a key player in the defense technology market.

What critics are saying

  • The highly specialized focus on U.S. government and defense sectors may limit market diversification and expose the company to policy changes and budget fluctuations.
  • The complexity of integrating multiple partnerships and technologies could pose operational challenges and affect the platform's performance.

What makes Second Front Systems unique

  • Second Front Systems specializes in bridging the gap between commercial software and U.S. government defense sectors, a niche focus that sets it apart from broader DevSecOps providers.
  • Their flagship product, Game Warden, uniquely streamlines the Authorization to Operate (ATO) process, accelerating secure software deployment for government agencies.
  • Partnerships with industry leaders like GitLab, AWS, and Chainguard enhance their platform's capabilities, providing a comprehensive and integrated DevSecOps solution.
