Sharp Memorial recognized for exceptional heart care.

Sharp Memorial recognized for exceptional heart care. By The Health News Team | May 22, 2026 Sharp Memorial Hospital recently announced that it has earned Comprehensive Cardiac Center Certification from The Joint Commission. This prestigious designation recognizes the hospital as a leader in delivering advanced, coordinated heart care. The certification is reserved for hospitals that provide a full range of heart care services across every stage of care - from prevention and early intervention to complex procedures, recovery and long-term management. Fewer than a dozen hospitals in California - and just three dozen nationwide - have earned this designation. What this means for patients For patients, the recognition signifies access to comprehensive, seamless and evidence-based heart care. As a Comprehensive Cardiac Center, Sharp Memorial offers a team-based approach, where specialists work together to ensure patients, both in inpatient and outpatient settings, receive timely diagnosis, advanced treatment and continued support tailored to their condition. "This certification reflects how our teams guide patients through every stage of heart care, from the moment they enter our system through recovery and long-term management," says Grace Ullum, director of the heart, vascular and thoracic service lines at Sharp Memorial Hospital. "It's about delivering the right care, at the right time, with the patient always at the center." Sharp Memorial's cardiovascular program has long been known for its leadership and innovation - from historic milestones in open-heart surgery and heart transplantation to ongoing advances in interventional heart care and surgical technologies. This certification builds on that legacy while reflecting the hospital's ongoing commitment to quality, safety and compassionate, patient-centered care. Years in the making Achieving Comprehensive Cardiac Center certification reflects years of dedicated effort. Sharp Memorial began working toward certification in 2022, aligning clinical excellence, technology and care coordination to meet The Joint Commission's rigorous standards. As part of the review process, the hospital underwent a comprehensive evaluation of its ability to deliver advanced cardiac services, support prevention and disease management, and provide a seamless patient experience. "This recognition reflects the hard work and commitment of our entire team in providing excellent, patient-centered heart care," Ullum says. She notes that the certification is a testament to the collaboration among doctors, advanced practice providers, nurses and support staff who work together every day. "Our focus has always been on doing what's best for our patients," Ullum adds. "This certification validates that work and pushes us to keep raising the bar." A trusted destination for heart care With its new Comprehensive Cardiac Center designation, Sharp Memorial Hospital continues to serve as a trusted destination for patients with complex heart conditions. For patients and families, the recognition offers confidence in knowing that their care meets the highest national standards - close to home. Grace Ullum.
