Summer 2023: Graduate Engineering Intern

Interns work directly with our experienced engineers in support of our business units New Shepard, New Glenn, Blue Engines, and Advanced Development Programs. Projects may include applied engineering in fluid systems, guidance, control & navigation, manufacturing, product management, structural & mechanical systems, electrical systems, avionics software, systems engineering, test engineering, and industrial engineering. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight. We offer internships at the following locations: Kent, WA; Cape Canaveral, FL; Van Horn, TX; Huntsville, AL; Los Angeles, CA; Denver, CO; Phoenix, AZ. However, not every technical discipline is offered at each location. Most internships will be held in Kent, WA. This internship will last approx. 12 weeks (May to August).
We are hiring for the following positions:
Avionics Software – Projects may involve many aspects of applied SW development including avionics software, embedded software, enterprise software, integrated system test, controls, machine learning, robotics and avionics hardware.
Electronics and Electrical Systems – Projects may involve many aspects of applied electronics and electrical engineering including avionics hardware (from PCBs to electrical systems), software, hardware in the loop, instrumentation & controls, system test, power systems, communication systems, mechanical systems, propulsion systems, manufacturing and systems engineering.
Product Management – Product Management at Blue sits at the intersection of Software, Aerospace and Manufacturing Technology, as our team is responsible to develop technology solutions to manufacture and operate rockets and Space infrastructure. Our Product Managers serve as pivotal leaders in formulating and prioritizing problems to solve, as well as leading solutions teams (Software Developers, Designers, Product Managers) towards the discovery of solutions for those problems.
Fluid Systems – Projects may involve many aspects of applied fluid / mechanical engineering including design, analysis and test of fluid components and systems, propulsion systems and mechanical systems.
GNC – Projects may involve all aspects of GNC engineering including guidance, navigation, controls, autonomy, avionics, simulation, system test, aerosciences, and systems engineering.
Manufacturing Engineering – Projects may involve many aspects of applied manufacturing engineering in the development and fabrication of mechanical, propulsion, structural, fluid and avionics systems. The projects will include the integration of design for manufacturing, test, operations, and materials & processes.
Structural & Mechanical Systems – Projects may involve aspects of applied mechanical / structural engineering including design, analysis and test of mechanical systems, propulsion systems, and structures.
Systems Engineering – Projects may involve aspects of applied systems engineering including system definition, systems test, system integration, system safety, operations and system verification of fluid, mechanical, propulsion and electrical systems.
Test Engineering – Projects may involve applied test engineering including the design, analysis and operation of test systems for testing fluid, propulsion, mechanical and electronic systems.
Industrial Engineering – As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of specialists, you will develop a coordinated manufacturing system maximizing state of the art manufacturing processes to design and manufacture sophisticated space launch vehicles. Partnering with manufacturing and facilities, you’ll lead this process and gather the manufacturing and facility needs, utilize Lean techniques, and creates meaningful foundations for high-efficiency manufacturing processes. You will work with a team of welding engineers, automation engineers, and operators to seek sophisticated challenges related to process implementation, monitoring, and inspection. We seek people who are passionate about space and possess a strong desire to continuously learn and improve.
Basic Qualifications:
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
- Currently enrolled in a graduate program and have at least one semester of school remaining after the internship.
- Available to work full time for a minimum of 12 weeks while not concurrently enrolled in coursework.
- Strong written, verbal, communication and interpersonal skills.
Desired Skills:
- Students who have acquired a junior or higher academic standing by the start of the internship are preferred.
- Relevant internship/co-op and academic project experience that demonstrate development of both technical skills as well as leadership qualities.
- Hands-on project experience.
- Passion for space.
