Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is preferred, or the employee must be currently enrolled in a program to achieve the preferred education.
  • Two to four years of experience are preferred.
  • Good communication, comprehension, and interpersonal skills are required.
  • The ability to speak, read, write, and understand English is required.
  • Working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, and the World Wide Web is required.
  • The employee must follow all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and organizational policies and procedures.
  • The employee must complete annual education requirements, including Compliance, Privacy, Security, and HIPAA training.
  • The employee must use protective equipment and follow universal precautions and infection-control protocols.
  • The employee must demonstrate proper use of equipment and report equipment needs or repairs.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct care and assistance with residents’ activities of daily living, including lifting, turning, positioning, transporting, bathing, dressing, oral hygiene, grooming, call-light response, range-of-motion exercises, ambulation, and bowel and bladder training.
  • Maintain residents’ rooms through daily, deep, and discharge cleaning, and keep resident living areas clean and organized.
  • Engage residents in activities of interest and provide restorative nursing programs needed to maintain activities of daily living.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with residents, peers, families, managers, and visitors, and report changes in residents’ physical or mental conditions.
  • Assist nurses with assigned tasks, including measuring and recording vital signs, gathering weights and other resident documentation, making beds, assisting with new admissions, and helping train and orient new staff when assigned.
  • Respect and protect resident rights, maintain confidentiality, and report resident complaints or allegations of abuse and misappropriation of resident funds or property.
  • Document resident information accurately, timely, and confidentially in the electronic medical record system.
  • Prepare residents for meals, serve food, assist with eating, provide after-meal care, pass snacks and fresh water or ice, record food and fluid intake, and report changes in eating habits.
  • Manage time efficiently, support a team approach, collaborate in problem solving, and participate in policy creation as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
