Job Description
The postdoctoral chemist positions are in HP’s imaging and printing business in our Corvallis, Oregon facility. The work will span the development of inks and fluids that provide industry-leading performance at best costs for HP’s inkjet and 3D print product lines.
Potential projects could include developing components that expand various ink attributes such as optical density and durability on different media and supporting ink manufacturing and qualifications. The successful candidate will collaborate closely across R&D, operations, factories, and partners to solve technical and business issues in a global organization. We are looking for a candidate who displays curiosity; someone passionate about science and technology and interested in amazing our customers.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with factories and partners to continually improve the quality of manufacturing processes, products and services
- Collaborate with R&D and other operation partners to develop and launch new inks and fluids
- Solve technical and business issues in a global organization
- Effectively communicate and collaborate to inform management of project status, decisions and issues
- Engage with external partners to support provision of a stable supply of materials for ink manufacturing
- Provide support to print organization activities as related to material and ink qualifications
Qualifications
- PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related scientific discipline
- Understanding of fundamental chemical mechanisms. Key areas include:
- Pigment and dye chemistry
- Polymers in solution
- Organic and inorganic nanoparticle suspensions
- Colloidal systems
- Interfacial and surface chemistry
- Proficiency in operating appropriate analytical instruments and interpretation of results
- Experience in designing complex experiments and interpreting results
- Synthetic chemistry
- Strong written and spoken communication skills
- Ability to creatively solve problems in a fast-paced product development environment
- Ability to work and effectively interact (remotely, as needed) with team members from other disciplines, projects, organizations, cultures, and companies
- Demonstrated leadership, teamwork/interpersonal, communication and technical skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Resourceful, creative, and flexible
- Fluency in English
Desired qualifications
- Familiarity with printing technology and color science
- Familiarity with ink formulation
- Familiarity with statistic software packages
- Technical problem-solving skills including lean problem solving
- Programming skills
- Experience with giving technical presentations to a wide audience
- Wet chemistry experience
- Experience with working with external collaborators (suppliers, institutions, etc)
