Requirements
  • BSN/RN with recent maternal/infant, community, or public health experience.
  • Prior experience and training in one or more areas of health education.
  • The incumbent must have experience in patient counseling and education, and recent perinatal nursing.
  • Must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR within 90 days of hire date and maintain current BLS CPR throughout employment.
  • Pre-hire and annual employee health screening required.
  • Annual influenza vaccine required; exception for medical or religious exemption approved by Administration with mask wearing during flu season.
  • Must have a valid Washington State Driver’s License and own or have access to an insured vehicle.
  • Must be of good character and able to maintain physical, mental, emotional, and social health suitable for the population served.
  • Must have good organizational and communication skills.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate boundaries in all interactions.
  • No history or evidence of alcohol or other drug misuse for at least three years prior to employment and no misuse while employed.
  • No felony conviction in the last seven years and no history of child abuse or any crime involving physical harm to another person; nor be a perpetrator of substantiated child abuse.
Responsibilities
  • The MSS RN assesses and observes client and family needs with regards to understanding of pre and postnatal care and educates accordingly.
  • Consultation and coordination of client care is done on a regular and as needed basis with other professionals involved utilizing a team approach to comprehensive services.
  • Ongoing demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and to recognize cultural, environmental and socio-economic factors that may affect a client’s ability to receive, comprehend and retain information.
  • The MSS RN must be comfortable yet professional in the client’s home setting with ability to set and maintain personal boundaries.
  • Must be able to perform independently and at the same time perform effectively and professionally as an interdisciplinary team member.
  • Must at all times preserve client confidentiality.
  • Participation in monthly providers meetings.
  • Attend Community First Steps meetings quarterly.
  • Be available via pager for urgent needs.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
  • Able to identify and categorize each patient’s age-specific grouping of needs, such as those for infant, adolescent, or geriatric patients.
  • Must document all nursing visits in the client MSS Electronic Health Record.
  • Must be able/willing to work with translators if not bilingual (Spanish).
Desired Qualifications
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English), bicultural preferred.
  • Certified lactation consultant training and/or experience and/or certification as a Childbirth Educator.
  • Prior experience and training in one or more areas of health education.
  • Experience in patient counseling and education, and recent perinatal nursing.
