Requirements
  • Technical high school education focused on basic drafting fundamentals and knowledge of Autodesk AutoCAD.
  • One to four years of experience in mechanical design or drafting; entry-level candidates with relevant education may be considered.
  • Ability to conduct ship checks, work in confined spaces, and climb 20–25-foot vertical ladders unassisted.
  • Familiarity with submarine platforms, ship systems, or Navy alteration packages such as TEMPALT, OPALT, and SHIPALT.
  • Understanding of mechanical drafting principles, manufacturing processes, and drawing conventions using Autodesk AutoCAD version 2020 or later.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical specifications and technical drawings.
  • Ability to obtain a government security clearance at the SECRET level.
Responsibilities
  • Develop 2D and 3D mechanical design foundations, systems, installation drawings, and arrangement drawings.
  • Create and maintain Lists of Material and interpret Government Furnished Information to meet design requirements.
  • Perform basic drafting in accordance with company standards.
  • Conduct ship checks aboard U.S. Navy submarines to collect field data, verify configurations, and support installation planning.
  • Update drawings using redline input from senior personnel and perform self-checks for accuracy and compliance.
  • Participate in internal design reviews and incorporate feedback.
  • Communicate with engineers, designers, and project staff to clarify design intent and task requirements.
  • Travel occasionally to naval installations for ship checks.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior work with military specifications or defense programs.
  • Familiarity with ASME Y14.3 drafting standards.
  • Associate degree in mechanical engineering technology or a related manufacturing discipline.
