BMO recruits Wells Fargo executive Brent Reston as U.S. Chief Digital Officer.

BMO recruits Wells Fargo executive Brent Reston as U.S. Chief Digital Officer. Published. August 31, 2026 Canadian banking giant BMO has recruited former Wells Fargo managing director Brent Reston as Chief Digital Officer for its U.S. division, putting him in charge of sweeping tech integration across newly consolidated regional operations. Reston steps into the role following the departure of former head of U.S. banking digital and technology Brianna Elsass, who recently concluded a decade-long tenure at BMO to join Wisconsin-based Associated Bank. Bringing deep industry experience, Reston previously led mobile app overhauls, deployed the Fargo AI virtual assistant, and launched digital lending products during his four years at Wells Fargo. His career background also features eight years driving client experience initiatives at Bank of America alongside five years handling corporate strategy at Merrill Lynch. As first reported by FinTech Futures, BMO U.S. President Aron Levine confirmed on LinkedIn that the executive will "play a key role in helping us accelerate our digital strategy and continue building exceptional experiences for our clients." The leadership hire coincides with a major physical restructuring, marked by BMO's pending transaction to offload 138 retail locations across the Midwest and Great Plains regions to First Citizens Bank by mid-2026. Capital generated from these regional branch sales will fund the rollout of 130 new physical branches in California and 15 locations in Arizona over the next five years, focusing expansion efforts on high-growth retail markets that currently generate over 40% of BMO's total corporate earnings.

Nominations open for 2026 Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin Contest.

Nominations open for 2026 Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin Contest. WMC Welcomes BMO as Presenting Partner for Competition's 11th Year Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC) - the combined state chamber and manufacturers' association - is again hosting a statewide competition to find the "Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin." The 2026 contest marks the 11th year of the popular public voting competition and the first year of a new partnership with BMO, which joins as the contest's presenting partner. Since its launch in 2016, the Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin contest has showcased the ingenuity, craftsmanship, and economic impact of Wisconsin manufacturers, while engaging thousands of voters from across the state. The annual competition highlights the wide range of products made in Wisconsin, from iconic consumer goods and agricultural innovation to advanced technologies and industrial equipment. "For more than a decade, this contest has helped spotlight the innovation and talent that make Wisconsin a manufacturing powerhouse," WMC President/CEO Kurt R. Bauer said. "This year is particularly special as we welcome BMO as our presenting partner to kick off this outstanding competition." Wisconsin leads the country in manufacturing jobs per capita. Last year alone, the manufacturing industry contributed over $73.8 billion to the state's GDP, generating an estimated $46.4 billion in earnings for manufacturing workers. WMC was the first organization to launch a "Coolest" contest to highlight the manufacturing sector. Now, 26 state chambers and manufacturing organizations host similar programs for their state's manufacturers. "BMO is honored to be the presenting partner of the 2026 Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin Contest as it celebrates the innovation, craftsmanship and entrepreneurial spirit that define Wisconsin manufacturing," said Andrew Roethe, Managing Director & Market Executive, Southwest Wisconsin Commercial Banking, BMO Commercial Bank. "We support manufacturers across Wisconsin with expertise and resources to help them grow, invest and compete, while saluting their dedication and the innovative products and services made right here in our state. We look forward to celebrating the remarkable companies that continue to strengthen Wisconsin's economy and reinforce our state's leadership in manufacturing." Manufacturers and members of the public can submit nominations beginning today at www.madeinwis.com. Any product that is manufactured in Wisconsin qualifies for the contest, regardless of company size. Following the nomination period, a popular vote will determine the Top 16 products that will be placed in a bracket-style tournament called Manufacturing Madness. Products will compete against one another in head-to-head match-ups, advancing through the bracket. Manufacturers, consumers, employees and other Wisconsinites are encouraged to vote daily through the rounds of voting. Ultimately, the 2026 Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin will be crowned at WMC's Business Day event in Madison on Oct. 27. Date posted: August 24, 2026
