Job Description:

Position will report to SDMI's Hazard Mitigation Program Manager and will primarily be responsible for serving as a planning team member for SDMI's current Hazard Mitigation Program.  As a team planner, the position will be responsible for coordinating with parishes and working with other staff members to write and develop multi-jurisdictional hazard mitigation plans. Position will also be responsible for assisting with other planning projects relating to emergency management/homeland security as directed.  Position will require in-state travel which may occur outside of normal office hours.

Job Responsibilities:

Position will be responsible for working on a team in the development, planning process and writing of hazard mitigation plans for assigned parishes.  Position may coordinate directly with the parishes during the planning process.  Position will be responsible for working with small businesses, non-profits and other government organizations in developing emergency response capabilities to include other planning projects, exercises or trainings.  Position may also be responsible for working during disasters to provide support to State agencies as needed. (60%)

Position will be responsible for contributing as a team member to other projects or awards relating to emergency management. This shall include: supply chain management, resiliency studies, recovery planning, parish emergency operations plans, cybersecurity, school safety planning, or other planning efforts within the disaster management spectrum. (20%)

Position will be responsible for working with the SDMI UAV team to collect geospatial data and aerial imagery for use in current and future GIS related projects.  Specifically, the position will be responsible for the operation of various GPS and GNSS receivers used while collecting geospatial data.  This includes the operation and maintenance of the GPS/GNSS units themselves, as well as any software used to operate the devices. (15%)

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and 1-3 years of previous experience with emergency management and/or homeland security. Planning or operational experience. FEMA Hazard Mitigation Program and/or Planning experience. GIS experience.

Preferred Certifications/Licenses:

CFM - Certified Floodplain Manager

Additional Information:

Field work and in-state travel is required.  Applicant must have excellent Microsoft Office and communication skills. Due to the nature and / or position responsibilities, this position shall be subject to alcohol/drug testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67. A valid driver's license is required.
