Brandeis University is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity as an Associate Research Scientist in the Biology lab.
Core Responsibilities -
Carry out an independent research project. In collaboration with PI Piali Sengupta, conceptualize a series of experiments and perform data analyses. Independently perform experiments, analyze results, and design followup experiments. Learn new technological methods and implement them in the lab. Present results in oral form at lab meetings, Brandeis forums, and public scientific conferences - 50%
Assist with and supervise research projects of other lab members. Provides occasional input and ideas to lab members on their projects. Devises optimal approaches to meet scope of work and ensures timely high quality submissions and deliverables. - 20%
May author and/or co-author reports, papers and presentations; typically co-authors peer reviewed papers; prepares abstracts, summaries and results; presents and publishes findings. - 5%
Provide training to new lab members in the fields of molecular biology, genetics, neuroscience. Train members to keep organized lab notebooks and design experiments. - 20%
Manage lab operations, including maintenance of C. elegans strains. Oversee advanced lab equipment including fluorescent microscopes, micro injection apparatuses, calcium imaging rigs, and behavioral imaging platforms. - 5%
Requirements -
PhD in Biology or related field.
1-3 years of related work experience required.
Ability to work at the lab bench and at microscopes for extended periods of time.
Will be exposed to lab chemicals, recombinant DNA.
Will assist PI in training lab members, generating data for grants, ensuring optimal functioning of the lab.
