Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in business, communications, public relations, journalism, finance, or a related field.
  • At least 6 years of progressive communications experience within a professional, corporate service-based organization, including leadership experience.
  • Project management experience managing complex, integrated communication projects.
  • Ability to take full accountability for business partner satisfaction, anticipate needs, build trust, and influence senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent advisory skills and ability to influence senior audiences.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including multi-channel experience.
  • Ability to develop relationships and navigate a complex global organization operating in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in using artificial intelligence tools for content creation, analysis, and distribution, with curiosity and creativity in exploring how artificial intelligence can improve individual work and broader team processes.
Responsibilities
  • Integrate deeply within assigned business units to understand their strategic priorities, challenges, and market context.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to business unit leadership, providing strategic communications counsel and identifying opportunities to advance business objectives.
  • Develop, lead, and execute holistic internal, external, and client-facing communications plans aligned with unit and organization-wide strategy.
  • Advise on content strategy, leveraging Global Communications’ capabilities and asset-class subject matter expertise.
  • Support leadership communications, including executive messaging, town hall approaches, and profile-building initiatives.
  • Act as the primary point of entry for business unit leadership into the broader communications function and manage the overall communications relationship.
  • Facilitate execution of communications plans and ensure timely delivery across the Communications team.
  • Engage and coordinate resources across the Communications team for content development, execution, publication, and event coordination.
  • Develop and review communications content for accuracy, quality, alignment with business objectives, and brand standards.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for assigned business units’ content contributions to the annual report and other key corporate publications.
  • Partner with the Digital Platforms team to track and report communications effectiveness using engagement data and feedback to improve reach, relevance, and impact.
  • Keep abreast of relevant industry-specific artificial intelligence capabilities and best practices.
  • Establish processes to identify and manage emerging issues relating to the business unit.
  • Lead coordination and response to emerging issues, developing communications strategies for different partners and geographies to mitigate impact on the organization’s reputation.
  • Contribute to preparing the crisis communication plan and strategies, and support communication responses to crisis situations relevant to the assigned business unit.
  • Act as delegate for the Director, Employee Communications as required.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and improvement by evaluating emerging technologies and approaches to enhance communications effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Where the role has direct reports, lead, manage, and develop a high-performing team and oversee its performance-management process, including mentoring and development opportunities.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in financial services or institutional investing.
  • Understanding of institutional investing across public and private markets, including capital markets, private credit, infrastructure, and renewable resources.
  • Media relations experience, particularly managing media inquiries and responses on behalf of a corporate function and building that function’s external and internal profile.

Air Canada unlocks $2.5B from Aeroplan in 25% stake sale to Blackstone and Canadian institutions

Air Canada is selling a 25% stake in its Aeroplan loyalty programme to an investor group led by Blackstone and La Caisse for $2.5 billion, valuing the programme at $10 billion. The airline will retain 75% ownership and full operational control. Air Canada plans to use the proceeds to repay a US$1.2 billion debt maturity and fund share buybacks, including an $800 million substantial issuer bid expected to complete in September. The investor group also includes PSP Investments and British Columbia Investment Management Corporation. Air Canada retains the right to repurchase the investors' stake between the fifth and eighth anniversaries of the transaction. The investment is scheduled to settle on 17 August 2026.

Canada's Dominion Dynamics raises $51.6M to build autonomous combat aircraft for Arctic ops

Dominion Dynamics, an Ottawa-based defence technology startup, has secured C$50 million from Canada's National Research Council and C$21 million in seed funding led by Georgian to develop Canada's first autonomous combat aircraft. The round included participation from Bessemer Venture Partners and British Columbia Investment Management Corporation. Founded by former Anduril Industries executive Erik Pence, the company is developing an Autonomous Collaborative Platform designed to operate alongside Royal Canadian Air Force F-35A fighters in Arctic missions. The delta-wing aircraft, internally called "Scout", will carry heavy weapons payloads and operate over thousands of miles using satellite communications. Dominion Dynamics plans to complete a subscale prototype within 18 months and is relocating to a 35,000-square-foot facility near Ottawa on 1 June to support manufacturing and testing.

Photonic raises $200M at $2B valuation to scale quantum computing across telecom networks

Photonic Inc., a Vancouver-based quantum computing company, has closed an investment round of over $200 million USD ($275 million CAD), achieving a $2 billion USD ($2.7 billion CAD) post-money valuation. The round was led by UK-based Planet First Partners, bringing Photonic's total capital raised to over $350 million USD ($475 million CAD). New investors include Business Development Bank of Canada, Export Development Canada, Bell Ventures, Firgun Ventures and InBC Investment Corp. The round's first close in January 2026 attracted Royal Bank of Canada, TELUS, British Columbia Investment Management Corporation and Microsoft. Photonic is developing fault-tolerant quantum computing through its Entanglement First Architecture, which combines silicon-based qubits with photonic connectivity that scales across existing telecom infrastructure. The company employs over 160 people across operations in Canada, the United States and United Kingdom.
